I think Oleg should have included a kamakazi campaign.....just think how easy it would be to destroy aircraft carriers if we could just crash into them.....plus over time and after many missions your pilot could become a carrier ace.......(lets see what kind of respose this generates....) http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

I had seriously considered doing a kamikaze campaign. Obviously the current campaign engine won't allow "successful" kamikaze missions to be counted as the pilot would be dead if he actually crashed into a ship. There is a way to do it, but you would have to keep score on paper.

Giving this a little thought, a series of progressively more difficult missions could be built. More interceptors and heavier AAA as the campaign progresses. The player would have to play the campaign with instant mission success turned off (or is it on? that's always confused me!). Anyway, after a "successful" mission, the player would have to refly the same mission so they could immediately end it and hit accept to advance to the next mission.

The lack of different ship types hampers this type of camapign at the moment. Hitting the same freighter will get a little repetitive. The lack of a flyable Betty limits things too. I would think you would need a fairly big plane to do have any chance of sinking the big ships.

The more I think about this, these types of missions would work better as a coop. It may require more than one person to hit the ship to sink it. Hmmm... Mission success can be set by specifying certain ships in each mission as needing to be sunk for mission success.

I'm starting to like this idea. I might just have a kamikaze mission or two ready for my squad this weekend. I'll let you know how they turn out!

I always thought Kamakazi was a super career choice.

Minimal training.
Great side perks.
Only had to go to work once.

It should be added on many missions the kamikazis simply came back for lack of a suitable target.

I was looking for an escort campaign for kamikazis. Or perhaps, a campaign for a flyable Bettys where you release your Ohka bombs on American and British Carriers.

Val's and Judy's were used for Kamakazi missions as well.

Your best bet for scoring purposes would probably be as escort missions for the suicide bombers.

Built a kamikaze mission tonight. Hope to use it this weekend in squad play. And I will be one of the kamikazes!

An odd thing, and it is due to several causes, is that the loss rates of RAF Bomber Command and US 8th Air Force were greater than that of the Kamikaze Corps, if I recall correctly. I think it's about:
RAF Bomber Command 65% of crews lost
US 8th Air Force 60% of crews lost
Kamikaze Corps 55% lost.

I built a Kamikazee Campaign..

Latest update: (01-28-05 2:20 pm PDT)

If you want a copy of the Coop.. it is avaialable witht he link at the bottom of this post.. to my Web site.. (this coop has just been update today.. in case you had an earlier version..)

it has:

Japanese side:

HE-162 (used as late war Rocket planes, modled after the the Transfer of information fromt he Germans towards the end of WWII)

Mistel is used in place of the 'missing' Betty with the 'Baka Bomb'

The HE-162 has both flyable and AI, the AI are set to hit a couple carriers int eh USA fleet off Japan.. The HUman HE-162 can either dogfight or play kamikazee,,,
The HE-162 cannot damage the ship, but can stil render the flight deck with debris and litter to make a landing difficult, or deadly..

The (2)Mistel are set to Fly to the area, but do to limitations are air start only and are AI if no human pilots take them.. The Mistel will sink the carrier, very fast..

Ki-84-1c as Mistel Escorts...

I also used on Japanese carrier with Zeroes... for those that want that..
The USA side:

The USA has several carriers of the coast of Japan and I used the F6F-5 Hellcat and the Cosair MK IVand F4U-1C.

I also used several carriers and some with parked aircraft with engines running parked ont he deck... (ai only), and the newer fire and smoke for effects,,, in different places..
I did lots of work on this, and while the selction is not hhistrical, given what we have up till now.. and the theme of the Coop, it's lof of fun, and you may want to take a movie trak of the mission, especially if you get some good pilots to show their flying skills..

There are serveral ships on each side, besides the carriers... but the focus is the dogfight fight up and around the carriers..
