I am moving posts around at this moment. Please see the Frequently Asked Question posts for more information on how to do stuff on the forum or in game! I will still leave some great tips that people have posted in this thread though! They will be linked in the FAQ threads. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Tips on Making a Successful/Helpful thread

While not necessarily needed, if you want to make an attention grabbing topic, sometimes a banner can help! One with maybe the title of your thread or if you have a shop, with the title of your shop and possibly some adverts in it can get people's attention and make them want to read the rest of your thread!

However, DO NOT MAKE THEM TOO BIG. Anything over 150 in height can be a bit too bulky and ruin the context of your thread. Similarly, take this into consideration with signatures too. If your signature is about the size of the posting section and thus, if someone scrolls to your post and about 75% of it is you and your signature, your signature is probably too big. Nobody wants to scroll through a bunch of images to get to information unless those images are relevant to the information.

Next, if you're making an informative thread, keep all important information IN ONE POST. If someone still has to search through a thread for more information, it kind of makes the point of the thread obsolete. They went there to find the information, not continue to search for it.

What if you have more information to add you ask? Well, in the bottom right-hand corner of every post, there's this cute little button: http://i51.tinypic.com/2s10g9g.jpg
That is the Edit Button and it allows you to edit your post at anytime. Using it, you can add more images and/or text at any point. This also helps lessen double-posting* which can be unnecessary and is something that is actually against the rules in most forums.

*Double-posting is when you post again right after yourself for essentially no reason. Okay reasons to double post are:
1. Posting to say you have made an update to your first post/explaining what you added.
2. If you need a series of posts on the first page of your thread whether it be for organization (Maybe you want to have an intro, then a post with all the information or if you have a shop, your products, and then a post with how to order or ask questions--or even a post with questions people have asked you!).
3. To bump up your thread if it's been kicked off the first page or it's been days since a last post. It only takes one bump--posting bump more than once is just spamming.

To put images in your topic, use the following code:
<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre"></pre>
Inbetween the tags, you would put the URL of the image after hosting on Tinypic (http://tinypic.com) or Imgur (http://imgur.com). Photobucket (http://www.photobucket.com) is also good, but you will need to sign up.

You can include as many images as you'd like, but do keep aware of the size. If you are afraid your image may be too big, you can show a smaller version of your image by resizing it while having that image link to the full version.
<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">
You would put where it states :)</pre>

Tips for stores specifically:
1. If you're owning one with multiple people, try and make it so posts are switched between you guys rather than one person making all their posts and then the next person. It won't seem so much like a shared store if people only see Person A's posts, will it? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
2. Try and keep all your merchandise in a single post (or one post per each shop owner/designer)! It makes things look orderly and helps people easily find what they want to see.
3. Neatly label the name of each design and if everyone's (each person who is part of the store) design is in a single post, be sure to make sure to say who it's by.
4. Make sure to mention prices! Sometimes a user may not have the funds on hand or not be getting enough to afford it yet. The higher your fame, the higher the prices will end up being--in fact, some of my items go for as much as 60-70+ right now. It's incredibly heart breaking to ask for something and be all excited then learn you can't afford it. To find a price, just hover over the item and it'll tell you it's Gem Worth--that is the price someone will be charged.
5. Showing an item on a design table or the view on you in your closet/badge book is -not enough-. Be sure to get a picture of your character walking around and if possible, the back too! Similarly, do NOT just show the view while walking around in game--people will want to see the details of the outfit before just buying anything.
6. Choose your wording carefully. Saying "Hey! I have something for you!" is more or less saying you have a gift for someone. When you send someone a trade, they can often end up disappointed or confused. Try saying "I made this design--can I trade it to you?" so nobody is confused.
7. Promotions/Advertising and special sales help http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Maybe gift an item to someone and then send them a message saying they can find your store on the forums! That could help get their attention and make them want to purchase more from you. Similarly, things like "Buy this shirt, get a free pair of matching socks!" or "Buy two shirts, get one free!" are also good for when starting off or just to get more people. However, don't forget pictures and clarifying! If you say free socks, people will want to see how they look http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif You should also qualify if they're a pair that matches the top, a randomly designed pair, a pair the user can pick, or a custom design by the user--people will ask and you don't want to confuse anyone or accidentally give someone the wrong idea!
8. Try affiliating! Why not link to other people's stores and ask them to link to you?
<pre class="ip-ubbcode-code-pre">[url=]Person's Shop Name here</pre>
You can even do the same with banners if the person makes a shop banner using the code above for when wanting to use smaller images to link to bigger ones http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
9. Have your outfits done ahead of time. If you post up an outfit or show someone one, you should always have one to two done ahead of time. Shirts with initials? Try and have one of each prepared ahead of time. Not everyone will be willing to wait and it shows good business practice when you have them ready to go. Obviously, if someone asks for color changes*, it'd make sense they'd have to wait, but try and have things ready! If you really can't have things ready, make sure you mention in your thread about how long it will take for them to receive their outfit.
10. *Be sure to mention if you're willing to do edits to designs. Maybe someone likes your designs but wants the blue areas in the red buttons and the red areas in the blue buttons. If you'd rather not change your designs, be sure to say so!
11. Find sponsors http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif You could ask people to go around and wear your designs by giving them certain designs for free. Working together can get more people to your shop. Similarly, this can work for people to link you who do not have design shops!
12. Making a shared account between you and friends and/or siblings is against the rules and not okay.
13. Specify what is and isn't for sale. If it's the top only, say so.
14. Similarly, if something is a set, be sure to say which the person actually has to pay for. It's not fair for you to let them think they're just buying the shirt and then make them pay for the socks/pants and/or skirt too.

I'll add more things as I think of them http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif But I hope this helps people make their threads all they can be.

Other things to keep in mind: Be respectful to other people's threads! If someone has a thread about favorite animals--making 5 more threads just spams up the first page for no reason and could make someone feel like their thread isn't good enough. Obviously, this is different for certain kinds of threads (Groups or Shops), but keep it in mind! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Well here's more of a did you know type thing: You can go onto someone's profile in the game and click on their outfit and it might tell you the exact name of it, it always does it on jade mall items and custom made items it will tell you the design they used (ex. No Neck Tshirt) and who made it.

Also you don't have to call a moderator to report someone, if you send a message to Valerie Talasi title it 'Report' and in the message say the person's name (character name) and then say what they did

Resizing an image and/or your signature tutorial:
IMPORTANT NOTE IF USING THIS FOR SIGNATURES: This is only if you want ONE picture in your signature. If you want more, you have to be creative (IE: 2 Pictures at up to 290x150 next to eachother or 2 Pictures at up to 580x75 with one on top of the other. If you still need help, you can post questions in the signature rules thread (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/7181012249/m/7821044649/p/1).

1. Go to http://www.picresize.com/
2. Pick your photo ("Choose File") and hit Continue.
3. Ignore Crop and Rotate and scroll down to #2.
4. Click the drop-down menu where it says "50% Smaller". Pick Custom Size.
4. Set it up like so:
If you are doing a signature, your image can not be bigger than 150 in height. The program will resize width the exact amount it needs to be to match the new height.
5. Then click "I'm Done, Resize My Picture!"
6. You will be taken to this page:
Click Save to Disc and you're done! However, if you are doing a signature and your picture is bigger than 580 in Width (while now being 150 in height) in the highlighted "New" box, you have a few more steps. See below:

7. Go back to the beginning and upload your new resized image instead.
8. Set it up like so:
9. Once again, "I'm Done, Resize My Picture!". Now just save the picture again, head to your image host (Tinypic, Imageshack, Photobucket, or maybe your own) and upload it there http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Then put it in your signature or post it on the forums for someone else to use!

IMPORTANT: If I don't mention something, just ignore it!
