View Full Version : Why is installation from CD or DVD ROM preferable to RW drive?

I need to install again and I only have RW drives, one CD and one DVD (they're the only ones I have now, I can dig up the old CD ROM drive if I really need to...)

So why am I reading that it's better to use ROM to install instead of RW?
Can I still use RW at all to install?

Thanks in advance.

I have a combo CDRW/DVDRW and had no trouble installing from it.

I also used a DVD-RW without issue!

Insalling will be Ok but some brands of RW drives will not recognise the play disk as a genuine disk when playing the game.

I only ever had issues when trying to install Forgotten Battles on a DVD drive http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/compsmash.gif, used my CD-Rom drive and FB worked sweet as! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/typing.gif

I never had any problems installing Pacific Fighters on my DVD drive, but not sure about AEP, never had it until the Complete Edition.

As far as I know the issue is not between RW and ROM, but with DVD and CD, and only with the first disk.

I hope this helps http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif
