Hi Monty_Thrud http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif
yes it may very well be Bf109 http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

I really feel horrible for the last FW190 footage. Pilot tried everything to get out of fire so he can bail out without to be shot to death while bailing http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif WAR

Yes There was an article in I think either Flypast or Aeroplane Monthly about the Germans moving a Squadron of FW190 up into the area as the DDay invasions where taking place at a time where the Allies had total air superiority, it was the norm to take an Engineer with them... He was literally stuck in the tail boom with no parachute and the panel was screwed back on when he was installed, all he had too hold onto was the structure surrounding him... there are reports of 190 pilots literally being blown apart trying to crash land their planes when they could have jumped to safety, because they didnt want to leave the man in the back to die........... acts of heroism like that do not get recognised, but there is no higher accolade in my eyes than to die attempting to save another human beings life, regardless of sex, creed, religion or beliefs............. some times I wish that the rest of had the same views as me, that way the world would be a better place...

If you want to find anything info about any plane then the 'Aircraft of WWII' Site is the place to go to http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Watch out for the Admin there though - Hot Space = yuk http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

But serious, it's a great Site http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

Excellent, stuff.
This kind of thing always saddens me because I know that they`s a REAL HUMAN BEING petrified for his life and about to die. It`s wrong to kill, yet, in a war, fighting the enemy, I WOULD pull the trigger. A contradiction? Of course.

There are several scenes that almost bring a tear to my eye like the one where the B17 is continuously being torn apart by the heavy guns of the 110 - it seems to go on forever. The B17 gunners simply do not respond.

Now on a 4.01 FM point, did you notice the floating `unsteadiness` of the view as it approached the B17? There is a similar effect to most guncams, for the 1st time I recognise that unpredictable sway effect you get from 4.01 FB/PF`s new torque and wind resistance.

Another point, the real life aircraft NEVEr do any mad instant turns, no matter how desperate they are; as in the P51 in trouble example. Once you get on the six of an enemy aircraft all he can hope is to outmanouever you or a m8 comes along, but no sharp swings unless his wing gets shot off. 4.01 enemy AI aircraft are much more like this. Even Humans can no longer throw their planes around in that mad way (not without serious repercussions).

Oleg`s done great work on the realism of WWII dogfighting now.

Good camera stuff, if sad.

I`ve only just noticed in one of those guncam footage where the fighter`s strafing boats and ground targets... In one instance he`s strafing a horse and cart! War is hell.

They needed the wood of the cart to burn so they could cook the horse http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/53.gif

Just watching from time to time these gun camera clips there is really appreciation for Oleg & 1c:Maddox for unbelievable close simulation of WWII air clashes and with 4.01 patch we got even closer http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/heart.gif

Especially the using of rudder of a FW190 pilot
in second round of gun camera clips that I posted above.
In one word STUNNING http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif

Also in that barge clip, the last scene, did anyone else see those tracers going really wild?

I agree Oleg must have watch these.. especially the one with the canopy flying off. The flashes and smoking are great. just like in the sim. perfect. Olegs Zero's gas tanks dont flame like the real ones but thats ok.

SeaFireLIV

Yea, I agree that Oleg must`ve seen these footage. The way the planes move, etc is so true to the sim and you feel yourself automatically identifying with the guys flying the plane, even though we`re only simulating. When you think of it like this IL2/PF is NOT just a game.

Also, I used to think the way the FW canopy flew off in IL2 was unrealistic, but when I saw it in the footage, I thought, wow so it really does break off in a big chunk!

This is why I don`t moan about things like FMs, you have to have some aeronautical knowledge and /or experience to adequately challenge it.

This is great footage, although the one labelled, 209.183.204 stock/fw190 looks more like a 109 with underwing gondolas to me.

So where is footage with guns instantly vapourising planes after a short burst that so many peolple seem to think is authentic? As far as I can tell most of the aircraft take a considerable amount of punishment before meeting their demise. Even the first clip here shows a sustained attack/s before the aircraft finally and spectacularly explodes.

Anyway thanks for sharing this footage.

Very interesting footage, in particular note the way the F4U pilot aims at the wing fuel tanks rather than the fuselage in order to set them on fire - same as in game.

On the subject of gun power, it's an issue with me for the DM of IL2. I happened to watch "Search for the missing fighters" on Ch5 (UK) last night where a couple of US businessmen went to Greenland to recover one of a squadron of ditched P38's from 1943. They got one out (now 300ft below the ice) and restored it but they tested one of the browning guns from the nose whilst there - One round into a steel barrel at 50ft and it blew a hole the size of your monitor in it producing shrapnel too. So i'm confused as to how many rounds I am supposed to pump into the target before it would break - an open issue but personally I think that IL2 is undermodeled somewhat.

The rudder slip on the FW190.....WOW!

As far as I know they tested the 20mm cannon.

Thanks, that explains it's pure power.

Well then it's the first 109 I've ever seen whose landing gear swings outboard.
That was 190 landing gear coming open with the loss of hydraulic pressure.

I am pretty sure he is not actually aiming there, its just the shot he got
