Ubisoft reports solid holiday sales

Holiday hits include Warrior Within, Ghost Recon 2 as as projects spike in full-year tally as well; meanwhile, Far Cry Instincts pushed back to Q2 2005.
Ubisoft games brought in a record $231 million in sales revenue during the third quarter of 2004-2005, or from October to December of 2004, company officials revealed in a report issued today. The company is projecting sales of $273 million for the fourth quarter, which represents a 10 percent increase over sales in 2003.

Ubisoft owes those high numbers to brisk sales of three titles: Prince of Persia: Warrior Within, which moved 1.9 million units in one month; Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon 2, which sold 1.4 million copies in seven weeks; and The Settlers: Heritage of Kings, which sold 220,000 units in five weeks in Germany alone.

Four titles are singled out as drivers of revenue in the current quarter: Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell Chaos Theory, Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30, Cold Fear, and Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Lockdown. However, one title that won't be seeing its way onto store shelves this quarter as expected is Far Cry Instincts. The title, the last from developer Crytek for Ubisoft, was originally due by March. Now the game's release has been delayed until the following quarter. For the full fiscal year ending April 1, 2005, Ubisoft hopes to top $744 million in sales.

"Ubisoft is well on its way to meeting its fiscal-year objectives and can count on an excellent year in 2005/06," Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said in today's statement.
