Hello again http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif

To play online games, it's been my understanding that Norton Fire Walls need to be dropped, and perhaps some tweaking needed with Router settings.

When I play on the Zone, it's with my other PC which doesn't have personal data stored.

I can drop the firewall in my other PC, but I'd like to get a clarification as to what happens when you actually do that.

I was told that as long as you're connected in a game, intrusions are not possible - anyone know if this is true?

And do I need to configure any port ranges?

Do I need to disable the DMZ?

Thanx again
Mike

I am not familiar with Norton.but usually you just have to give HL and IL2 permission to get through.(both ways.)

As far as the router goes you only have to forward port 21000 if you want to host dog fights or coops.

For help in setting up your router check here;

Not true at all, in game you are using the port associated with that game (21000 in the case of IL2 series) but ALL other ports are open and waiting.

DMZ tells your router to send all requests for all ports to a particular machine (PC) without the intervention of the firewall, relying instead on the PCs firewall or an additional hardware firewall 'twixt router and said PC.

Anti-Virus software is another matter, this can safely be disabled during online game so long as:
a. you remember to turn it back on (Norton can do this after a set time automatically in some versions)
b. You don't go browsing dodgy sites or read attachment bearing emails from strangers or careless friends.

I have encoutered similiar ( got also Linksys router and F-secure antivirus ) issue especially if I tried to host with in ubi.
Trough Hyperlobby it is just click and go. Anly port 21000 needed to be enabled and allow anomys connections.
I still can not figure how can i Host in UBI ( altoigh there is not that many players) But I
would expect that purlisher of game platform would work with out overwhelming tweaking.
It is surely not recommended to turn down all firewalls and sit naked and wait to be screwed...
