Hmpf. I just got my first award in my campaign today. A Sake Cup? What kind of joke is this?!

Searching the files I saw actually all the awards in the Japanese army/navy are token awards: the biggest of all to be given a Samurai Katana!

Is this historically accurate? I thought Japanese HAD normal medal awards like the 'Order of the Golden Kite' and such.

Has anyone more info on the matter?

Never flown for Johnny Sushi, but thinking about it, isn't a sake cup actually a bit more useful than a DFC?

It's cool and perhaps these token awards existed. But what were the developers thinking to include them instead of the real medals?

Personally i prefer the awards in PF. Medals were seldom awarded to Japanese pilots (compared to other nations)& they seem to reflect recognition from your peers in the squadron more than a pat on the back from the brass.
Of course the medals could be included as well....
http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gifis there a limit to the number of different awards that applies the same to all countries ?

I agree with you Saburo! I think those japanese awards are very nice, much more personal than some piece of metal.

I'm thinking to do some research on Japanese aviation medals and perhaps change the images of the awards myself.

But I must agree with you that perhaps in Japanese mentality being awarded an ancient 'Samurai Katana' as a token was perhaps the best thing an airman could await from his superiors.

Medals and promotions of more than one rank were only awarded (not regarding a few exemtions) posthumus by the Japanese military during WW2. For more information you may take a closer look at Saburo Sakai`s book "Samurai".

The only really odd thing to me is that the pistol and the holster seem to be separate awards? That's a little strange. If anyone would like they can find a full medal pack from Tony that Gaston used with his old Japanese campaign. Read Me:

JAPANESE MEDALS PACK WW2

Order of the Golden Kite (Kinshikun-sho) and Order of the Rising Sun (Kyokujitsu-sho) were created in the late 19th Century by the Emperor.

Both were ranked from lowest to highest levels according to the merit.

For this pack I have identified 4 ranks for each order.

You may sort your medals as follows:

1) Order of the Golden Kite 7 th
2) Order of the Golden Kite 6 th
3) Order of the Rising Sun 8 th
4) Order of the Rising Sun 7 th
5) Order of the Golden Kite 4 th
6) Order of the Risisng Sun 5 th
7) Order of the Golden Kite 4 th
8) Order of the Rising Sun 2 nd

I have included 2 additional medals for a larger range of choice:

-The Great East Asia War Medal (Jungoki-sho)
Although one of the major nations in WW2, Japan only instituted this single campaign medal on 21 June 1944. After the Japanese surrender, unawarded medals were then destroyed, making genuine originals rather rare.

-The Order of The Sacred Treasure (Zuiho-sho) in the 7th class version, which can be awarded to non Japanese citizens

Finally, I included 2 icons to personalize your file if you wish so.

I think it's still here: http://216.176.86.154/index.html

The pack sounds interesting. I've downloaded it to have a lookie.

Indeed, bestowing the Pistol and then the Holster as a separate award is at least stupid... I hope devs look at it.
