It's the city camo, for NOE flying.

Some guy's going to painstakingly skin that for a jet sim - some other guy's going to download it and think his graphic's card is dying http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

Looks like the Real Time Dynamic Paint Chipping we might see in BoB And Beyond. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I imagine the maintenance units are laughing their heads off.

Imagine trying to re-create that on a 1:48 scale model.

Looks like the painters did half of the job!

http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif We're trying to get the most realistic and smooth looking things in game, while the military are trying to make the real things look pixelated?

In service that geometrical scheme would be ruined by the constant overpaints naval aircraft get to fight corrosion. I was looking at one of those elegant picture books which had loads of photos of one cruise of a carrier. By the end of the cruise, the airplanes looked like they had the blue-gray pox (at the time, about '89, the USN was experimenting with a blue and gray color scheme).

D---ed neat looking scheme, have to admit. Wonder if it works?

That's just the low res skin, for low end systems - DUH!!

I actually started doing a skin of that paint job for Strike Fighters, but mapping issues (bad warping on the nose top and fuse sides) put an end to the idea. It's strictly used for recruiting purposes at airshows.

This is a cool Hornet paint job, too:

It looks like digital camouflage technology applied to a plane instead of battle dress.

See here for commercial examples:
