I mostly bought the add on to keep up with the servers, but I found that I anjoyed flying it (once I learned to deal with the torque on take off. Left more than a few columns of oily black smoke on and around the runway).

I hardly see it on the servers I fly on anymore. I still prefer the IL-2 but it was a nice change of pace.

All the major servers are running 4.05. Why are you saying the way of the dodo?

The Pe-2 is a fantastic addon...lots of people scoff...but anyways its great fun to fly the plane and in online wars its nice to have the Pe-2 and IL-2 combination on many attack sorties. Between that and the Ju-88 which was recently added and a few others...we have a fantastic array of twin engined attack and bomber aircraft for the eastern front. Its good fun if people stopped flying +25lb boost Spitfires for just half a second.

Yep. PE-2 is sitting across the table from the Mossie talking about the good ole days. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/bigtears.gif

Sure would be nice to have the high-hp mossie added http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/354.gif

iirec similer hp, but different performance curve. just makes it mega below 1000meters, then average above that, the higher u go the worse itll get..

Icefire, I say gone the way of the dodo because, even though most servers are running 4.05m, the Pe-2 isn't on the flyable planes set in many of the servers and even when it does appear, almost nobody flies it.

It appears in the maps which are the correct year and time for it to appear.

It is popular, usually half of the ground attack planes are IL2 , half Pe2.

Like I always say to these types of posts, try some other servers. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

i have one demo mission with Pe2 called 'numerical superiority', where 6 Peshkas dive bomb an enemy airfeld, from which 2 Bf109 F-2 s take off in a big hurry http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

now that's an interesting scenario, because after the bombing the Peshkas have the option to run home fast, OR, stay around to fight the yet slow and low Bf-109 F2s http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_eek.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

I personally feel that we have to fly what we paid extra for, at least once in a while.

the Pe-2 is a very good bomber , and can be found on every eastern front based map, if you talk about Dogfightmap anline play.

proplem: lot of servers i know are very "western front" based http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

and Pe-3 is also fun, espacially in fights against Bf110s...............

and beside online play, these planes are also useable offline http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Fly on a server that isnt exclusively late war having exclusively my **** is bigger than your **** uder duber fighter planes (except for Me 262s which arent allowed on most late war servers http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif - wonder why?)

If you want to fly Pe2 and fly it in historical missions where you arent always up against Fw 190 A9s and Bf 109 K4s with 108 gunpods try out UKD2.

Yeah, I'm flying Pe-2 (and Ju88 for that matter) regularly on UKD-2, and it's a great fun to outrun 109E/F2 low alt in 1942, or to 'insta-stop'(TM) their engines with back facing UB or twin shkas!

It's harder to fly it later, when 108s arrive... but still manageable.

I see it all the time....Fly it on occasion too. It's like any new plane, at first everyone wants to fly it then it takes its place being flown by only its hard core fans with folks on occassion hopping in it for another spin or two......Nothing different about it then any other plane here.

4.04 servers are usually more populated during the times of day when I play games. I don't know if it has to do with my particular time zone or what. Between this factor and my distaste for the way 4.05 was distributed I have no real reason to use it. This may change when the Fantasy Future whatever add-on comes out. I want some faux-Korean war action! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

I have a lot of trouble landing it properly!!!!real hard for me to judge a correct landing speed.I usually become one with the earth!! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

The Pe2 is a great attack aircraft. No convoy is safe with 2 Pe2's about.

As far as landing it goes... remember it was originally designed as a high alt/high speed bomber. Even though it's role was changed, it's high speed wing was not. Make a long, high speed approach and don't let your speed drop below 170-180kph. Pretend it's a 737 and you will be OK.

The PE2 is more at home in the co-ops for flying historically accurate missions rather than dogfight servers.
They get picked on big time by fighters in DF's as they light up nicely with a few well placed rounds. As such they only come into their own when there is a lot of people in the DF server to give you cover or distract the enemy while you sneak in to target.

That's great advice Elaurens, the only problem with me is I'll need a 50,000ft runnway or a naval version of the Pe2 with a tail hook!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif

I can 3-point it every time and I'm not all that great of a flier.
