Yes I searched the boards but couldn't find this anywhere, and it's new to me. I found this interview with Jade talking about assassins creed. I found this excerpt interesting:

Altair is a disgraced Master Assassin sent to kill nine men in order to end the Third Crusade...players will experience his re-induction into the order, his rise through the ranks of the Assassin Brotherhood. His full name is Altair Ibn'La-Ahad which roughly translates into "Altair, Son of None."

So what are you saying? That Altair was the product of a virgin birth?

I think a much more metaphorical meaning is appropriate here. Perhaps he doesn't know who his parents are?

Well Altair means "flying thing".

So...........Flying thing Son of none.

Not as catchy as "Bond...James Bond" is it.

ok first off Al-tair doesn't mean "flying thing" Al in arabic means "the" just like in spanish how El means "the" and tair means flyer so he's called "the flyer" now second altair ibn'la-ahad, now ibn does mean "son of" but la-ahad doesn't mean none, la-ahad actually roughly translates into "the only one" so i thing his name actually is "al-tair, son of the one"

- Al-Tair means "The Bird" and may be used only for birds.

- Al-Ta'r means "The Flyer".

And by the way, Al-Tair is not a name of public use. No one is called Al-Tair, it's just a nickname.

- Ibn La Ahad does indeed mean "Son of none".

- "Son of the one" is "Ibn Al-Wahid".

The only explanantion for this is that UBI just didn't want to go deeper into Altair's family, because giving away his father's name may give birth to more questions from the fans like:

Hey I searched for Altair XXXXXX and there was no such assassin at that time...WTF?

ahh see your reading the clipped interview

His full name is Altair Ibn'La-Ahad which roughly translates into "Altair, Son of None." Orphaned as a child, he was taken in by the Assassin's and raised amongst them.
