View Full Version : How do I modify my sub's top speed?

I've been getting kind of bored with SH3 lately, and was trying to mod the game so I could make my sub do 75 knots or something, just for fun.

I found the files where all the info about the subs is stored, but opening the .cfg file for the type XXI and setting the max speed and max submerged speed to 75 seems to have had no effect. I edited the file, saved it, loaded up SH3, started the XXI single player mission, and I'm still only able to do the normal max speed.

What do I do? http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

The Russians invented a torpedo that does 800kph

Not underwater it doesn't, surely? That's 500mph! I find it hard to see anything doing that speed submerged...

Sorry my mistake the Russian torpedo is 500kph and the German one is 800kph

Supercav torpedoes (http://www.deepangel.com/html/the_squall.html)

The Kursk was supposedly on trials for those rocket-torpedos....they thought it was one of them that detonated in the launchtube early on in the rescue tries...

Oddly enough Hydrogen Peroxide which powers some torpedoes is also a rocket fuel

Judging by what the kids down the street from me are doing to their cars, you'll need to do the following.

****12 STEPS TO INCREASE THE SPEED OF YOUR U-BOAT****

1. Put an engine tachometer bigger than your head on the bridge next to the UZO. You don't need to actually connect it to anything, but it give you about a 5% increase in power.

2.Next, locate a crashed Catalina PBY and take the tail from it and mount it on the stern of your U-boat. While that won't increase the speed of your boat, I'm told it improves performance and won't slow you down at all. I'm guessing that you could also use the extra area for shade on those bright sunny North Atlantic days.

3.Make sure to put a big sign on the front of the conning tower that says 'NOS' on it. The bigger the writing the more power you get. You'll see a 20-150% increase in power!

4. Paint misc. Japanese, Korean, and Chinese symbols on the side of the hull and conning tower. You don't have to know what they mean, in fact the more you have the faster your U-boat will go!

5. Chop the conning tower down so that it is not as tall, but don't have the dock workers do it, sail off to some secluded bay somewhere and you it yourself. It doesn't matter if it is crooked, nobody will notice.Don't use a welder either, just expoy and duct tape should do fine. I'm told it'll help you turn faster and go faster.

6. Put a really loud gramaphone in it. I'm talking one with a speaker-horn wider than a torpedo tube. Whenever you need to go really fast. turn it way up, it'll give you another 25% to your top speed.

7. Tint the periscope as dark as humanly possible. Letting too much light in to the optics will slow you down. +5% more to top speed!

8. Buy a turbocharger or supercharger, or at least the box for one, and put it in the back. If anybody asks how fast you can go, just answer, "real fast, but even more so after I install this baby!" and point to the box.

9. Remove the schnorkle and replace it with a bunch of coffee tins welded together. Hold it in place with a coat hanger. You'll get 10% more speed.

10. Make sure you have a K&N decal on the conning tower, you don't actually need to install the filter to get better power.

11. Don't wear uniforms that fit right. Make sure the you leave your belts at base. Butt-cracks increase your U-boats performance and give you a place to tuck your Luger or Walther.

12. Make sure all music played is as loud and offensive as possible, include titles like, "My Dreadal Packs A Nine", "F*** Da Furher", and "The SS Can S*** my Schnorklez"

Hopefully you'll see a dramatic change in your subamrines performance as well as your renown!

Sorry, you're right. We should get back to that 75 knot u-boat right away. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif

Well, someone already did answer your question. If you scroll up to about the 3 reply, you'll see it.

Better yet, steal the engines of the Enterprise-D. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/mockface.gif
9,5 times the speed of light. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Sorry wrong nothing goes faster than the speed of light it may seem like you are getting there faster but all you are doing is creating an artifical bubble of space time that allows you to pass from one point to another (like taking a short cut or using a wormhole)through subspace all the time your not traveling faster than half the speed of light http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

He didn't really answer my question, I tried setting the top speed to 30, and it still only does 17 submerged.

And I'm only trying to change the top speed to fool around. I bought the game the day it came out, and after playing it for months I've gotten bored. What's with the people who come into threads like this and yell at people for "cheating"? I can sink stuff just fine on 100% realism, but I'm bored with it. I want to do 40+ knots underwater so I can run circles around destroyer and mess around http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I know that I'am a trekkie myself.
I was only joking.
If they use warp engines they go a few million miles per hour.
If that aint fast enough I don't know it either.
