A fitting death to a great man- peacefully in his bed. I can't help but smile at how wonderful that is.

Rest in peace, and thank you.

I'm surprised there's no good saluting smilies.

The enemies swapped cigarettes and tunic buttons, sang carols and even played soccer amid the mud, barbed wire and shell-holes of no man's land.

This is what captivates me about that war. It was just a different feel altogether.

I saw him a week or so ago on a show about the last Tommy's. There were 24 of them when they began making the program, and only 9 left whent they finished. Prince Charles came to visit him occasionally as he had served with his Granmother's brother at Loos in 1915 where he was killed in action. It was a very touching program. I'm sorry to hear he's passed on but happy that he led such a full and long life.

"Anderson is survived by four children, 10 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren."

Seems he had a good live after those hard years of battle. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

All honor to him. Amazing anyone survived that blood fest. I got to see the last surving german aviator from that war back in 92 at an airshow....got a few pix of him talking to re-enactors. He even sang the ww1 german national anthem.

What heart those guys had.
