View Full Version : your favorite "scenic spots" on maps?

What places do you like to fly just for the "eye candy?" I've played most of the maps but I've been finding interesting areas here and there that stand out as being really interesting places to set missions...

For example I've really been enjoying making missions on the Kuban map--all along the southern coastline area there are a bunch of mountains that are the perfect height for air battles--the enemy AI doesn't constantly crash into them. set the clock for around 6AM and you get a lot of fog that wraps in and out of the mountain valleys and it just looks really cool.

another cool place is the river valley in the Desert Online map--fun to fly through, especially if you're dogfighting a bunch of tangos...

Agree on Kuban. I also like the south west corner of Crimea between Simferapol, Yalta and Sebastapol.

other favourites of mine....

Awake! for Morning in the Bowl of Night
Has cast a Stone and put the Stars to Flight:
And Lo! the Hunter of the East has caught
The Sultan's Turret in a Noose of Light.

Here with a Loaf of Bread beneath the Bough,
A Flask of Wine, a Book of Verse---and Thou
Beside me singing in the Wilderness---
And Wilderness is Paradise enow.

The Moving Finger writes; and, having writ,
Moves on: nor all thy Piety nor Wit
Shall lure it back to cancel half a Line,
Nor all thy Tears wash out a Word of it.

Listen again. One Evening at the Close
Of Ramazan, ere the better Moon arose,
In that old Potter's Shop I stood alone
With the clay Population round in Rows.

And, strange to tell, among that Earthen Lot
Some could articulate, while others not:
And suddenly one more impatient cried---
"Who *is* the Potter, pray, and who the Pot?"

Then said another---"Surely not in vain
"My Substance from the common Earth was ta'en,
"That He who subtly wrought me into Shape
"Should stamp me back to common Earth again."

Another said---"Why, ne'er a peevish Boy,
"Would break the Bowl from which he drank in Joy;
"Shall He that *made* the Vessel in pure Love
"And Fancy, in an after Rage destroy!"

None answer'd this; but after Silence spake
A Vessel of a more ungainly Make:
"They sneer at me for learning all awry;
"What! did the Hand then of the Potter shake?"

Slovakia anywday. My jaw hit the floor when I saw that, looked better than LOMAC is some ways on that ancient engine.

are those pics on Il-2? I've never seen a bridge like that, though there are some pretty funky things in the objects menus...

here's one of the kuban

Yeah, Kuban is nice.
For such an old map anyway.
And the planeset is just fine, that aspect shouldn't be underestimated too.

Finland also rocks!
Winter Finland in dawn http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif .
Very nice map.

Iwo Jima map with the alien activity near the island is also cool http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif .
Apparently devs created some ground objects under water, submerged (possibly tanks that are shooting at each other).
Although I dislike almost every Pacific map, they are as cool done as old ones...

There was this desert map where you could spot the un-natural greenish oasis...

I totally agree with you Aimail101
Just flying around over the cities, through the hills and valleys of Slovakia is amazing. Especially when it is hazy in the early morning hours...

I especially like low level dfights in steep mountain areas.

My favorite offline scenario is my 109E/F vs 8 hurris in the Crimea. I like making the AI crash into the mountains. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Kyushu map is really impressive in places...there's an excellent mountain across the bay from Chiran and it really dominates the landscape no matter where you are in the area.

The castle in the southern Crimea is gorgeous. I didn't know that there was a such thing. I had to fly closely.

I also like the Winter Palace in Leningrad.
