View Full Version : Dear Oleg, flyable planes for BoB?

Dear Oleg,

can you give us little information about the planes that are planed as flyable for BoB at the moment?

Will we get also float planes like the Ar-196 or He-115 or only the fighters and bombers we know from Forgotten battles?

Hope you are able to give some information.

Well, I guess planes such as He115 or Ar196 played a rather minor role during BoB OPS.

There were different seaplanes (like the Bv138 for example) - mostly used for rescue operations.

But AFAIK, BoB is planned to be "add-oned" (just like IL-2) after the release of the initial sim.

I don`t think that they only played a minor role.
In the "convoy battles" they were used for laying mines, torpedo attacks, submarine hunt, reconnaissance ....
The Battle of Britain is not only Spitfire and Hurricane against Bf-109, Ju-87 and He-111, operation "Sea lion" is only a part of it. The Major part is a battle for resources and the control of the channel and in this, float planes had a realy important role.

And bye the way, don't you think it would be very interesting to have such planes?
It would give BoB a whole new area of missions than only normal fighters and bombers.

I don't think we'll get any hints to what's planned for a long time. Maddox Games is not going to make many comments on BoB because there is a BoB release in the near future and - of course - potential business rivals could take one or two basic ideas.

My very personal opinion - if we'll get floatplanes with BoB they will be connected to Search and Rescue operations. I cannot see much else - especially because neither Ar 196 nor He 115 operated in the Channel region but over the open North Sea. So my bet would be on Bv 138, Do 18, Do 24 or He 59/60.

Just flying around, meeting nobody in the air,and land and count that as succesfull search and rescue mission, Like it is now in PF is a little odd...so this typ of mission needs some rework for BoB, but not for PF,I see them just as little break between the battles and PF has not the ability to generate missions as rescue missions, and if you ask me, BoB won't have it too

When flying as the Jap Zeke float plane, I always wandered, where did the rescued man sit when found? Given that its a single seater...

Just checked the old DVU. ANd this is what we have seen so far:

Bf 109 E-3 (I guess we can expect E-1, E-4 and E-7 as well)

Hurricane MkI

Spitfire MkI (Cockpit)

Gladiator MkI

JU 88 A-4 and some C version

Vickers Wellington MkI

Boulton Paul Defiant

Bf 110 C-2

JU 87 B-2

CR. 42

Bf 108 (propably just for fun)

Loads of ground objects, enough alone to make my PC crash http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

Apart from this, flyable bombers like Blenheim, HE 111 and DO 17 are almost guaranteed, if not from the start then in a free addon.

I think 1C will be likely to focus a lot more on interesting gameplay features like radio communication, large formations and ground operations than the sheer number of flyables.
But I think there might be a good chance to see some mine laying operations in BOB too, propably featuring the HE 115 http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

That was no rescue plane. It was offensive fighter to be deployed at forward bases where there is not yet any airfields hacked out of the jungle islands. Tulagi at Florida Island was a famous example of A6M2N sea~fighter base while the Japanese were (very slowly) constructing a real airfield next door on Guadacanal. Note the sea base "takeoff" icons off the coast of Tulagi island on the PF Guadacanal Early map (early because it was destroyed during USA landings and does not show on "later" map).

This is why Oleg should have included blank maps with No Airfields and No Building Objects. With the Airfields and Building Objects placed by the map makers, you can only sim "exact history" one particular month out of the entire war. Jungle bases popped up every month, and were destroyed every month. With the new static test runways, we can place our own airfields where and when we need them on blank maps (if we had blank maps). http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_mad.gif

And simplified PF blank maps with No AI programmed FB European Roads and No FB European Rivers would enable the map makers to make MUCH larger maps with ease, covering Wewak (in New Guinea) to Santa Cruz (East of Guadacanal) all one one map for example. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

A6M2-N "Rufe" was a fighter, not a rescue plane.

Dear Oleg, flyable planes for BoB?

Dear Jabo22,

Be sure, there will be flyable planes in BoB.

I'd like to do SAR with the Walrus - but only if there's a decent weather system, with waves and stuff on the sea!

In the campaign for it, there are some rescue missions however, hence why I asked.

mmmm do they now??

Its possible Japanese pilots used A6M2N for searching for downed aircrew and on rare occasion a pick up. Aircrew used their aircraft for purposes never dreamed of by the designers. A good example is Rudel landing his Stuka behind enemy lines and taking on passengers, then getting stuck in the mud and having to walk back to German lines, alone (the others died or were captured). I believe that was the only gunner Rudel lost --er-- do I recall his book correctly? Not sure. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

well, a rescued guy could cling to the float

and yeah, a walrus would be cool http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif
