I'm looking to get a TrackIR and some people are saying to get TrackIR 3 because it can use the "vector" stuff. What does the vector ability do?

How does TrackIR 3 differ from TrackIR 2?

I seen the recently posted "Butchered" FW190 video, and I really like the view ability of the player. That's what I want. What do I need?

Thanks!

Read about it here ....

I just purchased one, TrackIR-3 Pro with the Vector Expansion. I am impressed!

TrackIR3 (http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/products/trackir3.html)

TrackIR3 Pro (http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/products/trackir3pro.html)

Vector (http://www.naturalpoint.com/trackir/products/vector.html)

The 6DOF functionality of the Vector expansion isn't supported by FB/PF.

Since the Vector exansion is not supported in IL2, is it necessary to get TrackIR 3? Will TrackIR 2 be ok?

I use TrackIR 1 and it's excellent!

As soon as I can afford to upgrade I certainly will.

TrackIR 3Pro with Vector expansion seems to be even smoother than 'just' TrackIR 3Pro.

I just got TIR3Pro and I'm quite happy with it!

There is no reason for FB/AEP/PF simmers to get the Vector expansion, since there is no 6DOF support in FB. The only plus is the fact, that you don`t have to sit so still in front of your monitor compared to dot mode. Leaning, banking and up and down movements of your head are filtered out by the new version of TrackIR software. It only recognizes turning of your head in vector mode. There is a little bit more precision but it`s not worth the money if you are a FB/AEP/PF-only pilot

If you own CFS3/FP it is a must have in my opinion. 6DOF adds so much immerson to CFS3, it`s worth every cent.

The next software title with 6DOF support will be the international release of GTR end of this month.
There will be more titles in future, one of it will be Olegs Battle of Britain.

Well, I used TrackIR v1 and liked it. Then moved up to TrackIR 3 Pro with some skepticism about how much better it would be than the original and wasn't dissatisfied. The filters, and tracking were all better and the view control was considerably smoother. An improvement on an already good product.

I had an opportunity to recently grab a Vector Control add-on ( from here: http://www.magnum-pc.com )and set it up about an hour ago. It is again an improvement. It's even smoother, which is hard to explain adequately, but is definitely noticably better. I put mine on the TrackHat that came with it and I covered the integral reflector tab on the bill as suggested in these forums.

I held off on installing the newer 4.xx software until I received the unit so the new interface was interesting and functional.

The bottom line is, none of the TrackIR's are a necessity to play this sim, but the experience for me without it is like night and day.

I give it http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif
