View Full Version : OK. Now this combat business is really too much!

Having kinda mastered landings etc I now find myself completely bewildered by air combat. If it really was anything like that back in WW2 then I really REALLY have admiration for those guys. Everything moves too fast. Everything is somewhere else when I reach it. Everything disappears and appears on my tail and thats after you figure out what you should be shooting at and what you should'nt be!! I wish they had fought in armed cars. I might have better success in those sims. :s

If you need any help just post here again. Id love to help but you dont seem to have asked a specific question here so il let u get on with it, happy hunting, one suggestion though, never stop looking round, you should always keep ur thumb movin the HAT switch. A lil programme i use called newview converts the HAT switch to be used like the mouse, and it is very customisable but quite hard to install correctly. If u want any info just PM me or post here.

That I can believe. Im always on the look out and never stay in level flight for to long but those dam 109s just come out of now where and fly back there leaving you to put out the flames!

Yeah....It was like Russian roulette.
Experience bought U some time but didn't help against bad luck.
After one had evaded the 8th enemy successfully in a furball U got hit by your own inexperienced wingman, or the engine stopped for seemingly no reason, or a stray bullet from a groundunit put an end to it all, or a thousand other reasons.

One ace said that experience is good but he prefered to be lucky because a fighterpilot without luck coldn't count on coming home.

One tip for IDing LW in the sim is that their silhouettes(for want of a better word) are far blockier at a distance, particularly the 109. I BELIEVE a lot of the original aircraft are like that but if you are flying RAF or USAAF vs LW it is not so hard to tell . You can also see the radiator(?) under the wings on the 109 quite easily.
To be honest though, after patch 3.04 I started using range icons if I got into a dogfight as otherwise I spent the whole fight chasing my own team or else squinting at an invisible dot on the ground. Setting a button to toggle icons has helped me enjoy the sim more.

One thing that helped me ease into id-ing targets effectively was to fly with a friend who has lots of experience.I would act as his wingman while he showed me the ropes.While he went in for the kill,I would keep my eye open for any threats coming towards him.I would call it out to him,or if there wasn't time I would get down to buisness.

Flying with a good wingman can do LOADS to add to the immersion of flying,as well as help you learn the ropes much,much quicker http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif
