Hello everyone! I've been offline for about five long years and have just gotten back on today. I have version 4.08m and am having trouble getting/finding online play. Any suggestions to get me out of the fog and into some action? It's been a while, maybe I'm doing something wrong?

Thankyou! I've been playing (endlessly http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif) for all this time. Had to write my own campaigns. Tried that Hyperlink but no luck...

I downloaded HL but it can't find the 'path'. Tried unsuccessfully to correct - any ideas? Thanks for your reply.

Thanks again, Slick. I copied and pasted the path and got a new error. TOO depressing - I'll try again in the morning. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

It seems Hyperlobby has been acting up a bit, but don't stop trying. Sometimes it can be stoppage somewhere in the many hubs and ports between you and the Hyperlobby server.

Or you can use All Seeing Eye.

http://videogames.yahoo.com/multiplayer

Dowload the trial version, you don't have to buy it.

Except for chat possibility and a better way to host/join coops in HL, I find All Seeing Eye WAY superior to Hyperlobby.

1) It does not use a heck of a lot of RAM.

2) You see all the necessary details of the server you want to join, especially what MAP they are running, which you can't see in HL (That's why I am so happy when server admins name their missions e.g "Burma1942.mis" instead of "17625254325323.mis http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif )

3) All Seeing Eye gives you the correct number of players in the server, something that HL does not. HL only lists the players that have joined via HL, not any other way such as through ASE, direct IP etc)
ASE shows you ALL the players, not matter what way they entered the server.

Thanks for the help Skarden, but still no luck. I opened HL, typed in Username and password, then the window to find the path comes up. I copied and pasted path, hit save, and get "run-time error 52 - Bad file name or number". HL automatically closes. Tried again and held CTRL+SHIFT, hit save, same thing. I've been offline tooooo long and find this veeerrrry frustrating http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif How can I disconnect if I can't connect to begin with??? Won't give up though...

Dude....ALLSeeingEye!

See post above. At least you can use it until you get the HL stuff sorted. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Seconded.

Personally, for the reasons listed above, I can't stand Hyperlobby.

I created a set of server filters for All Seeing Eye, which lets you toggle useful stuff for server browsing. I don't know if this is available online, but I couldn't find anything to just made it myself.

http://img232.imageshack.us/img232/1460/filtersel3.th.jpg (http://img232.imageshack.us/my.php?image=filtersel3.jpg)

To use, place the following in your "filters.txt" in the All Seeing Eye directory.

You may need to replace any existing IL-2 FB filters (use the find function in notepad I suppose)

IL-2 Sturmovik: Forgotten Battles
ServerType: OLD
RegKey: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Ubi Soft\IL-2 Sturmovik Forgotten Battles\directory
ExeName: IL2.EXE
JoinTemplate: {EXEPATH} {address} -name "{USERNAME}"
HostTemplate: {EXEPATH} "{NAME}" -room "{NAME}'s game"
Port: 21000
Mutex: SV
1 if servertype != "OLD" remove
2 if gamename != "il2sturmovikfb" remove

IL-2 Sturmovik: Forgotten Battles\Filters
Group: NUL

IL-2 Sturmovik: Forgotten Battles\Filters\Hideable Cockpit
Group: IL2FBV1
1 if CockpitAlwaysOn != "0" remove

IL-2 Sturmovik: Forgotten Battles\Filters\Cockpit Always On
Group: IL2FBV2
1 if CockpitAlwaysOn != "1" remove

IL-2 Sturmovik: Forgotten Battles\Filters\Externals
Group: IL2FBV3
1 if NoOutsideViews != "0" remove

IL-2 Sturmovik: Forgotten Battles\Filters\No Externals
Group: IL2FBV4
1 if NoOutsideViews != "1" remove

IL-2 Sturmovik: Forgotten Battles\Filters\Icons
Group: IL2FBV5
1 if NoIcons != "0" remove

IL-2 Sturmovik: Forgotten Battles\Filters\No Icons
Group: IL2FBV6
1 if NoIcons != "1" remove

IL-2 Sturmovik: Forgotten Battles\Filters\Version 4.08m
Group: IL2FBV7
1 if gamever != "4.08m" remove

Oh what a headache! I thank you all for trying to help me http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif - I must look like an idiot. I'm not but am feeling like one right about now. All attempts get me as far as IL2 or IL2FB but I've got 1946 v4.08m. All Seeing Eye, HL, neihter working - oh so lost. A few years ago I just clicked on Multiplay, connected to a server (or made my own) and voila! Now there's bumps on my noggin from banging head into wall...

Thanks again, Slick. I copied and pasted the path and got a new error.

Just throwing this out there, but what path are you copying and pasting? You need to put in the path to the game as it is in your PC and not anything from any website, unless you installed it in the default location.

Well, hang in there.

One of the good things about ASE is that it provides the IP and once you have found a few servers you like to fly on, you can connect direct through Multiplayer using the IP provided by ASE.

You have to select the specific game you want it to filter though. Look for Pacific Fighters and/or Forgotten battles and try them both. I can't remember which it is.

I will make it simpler: DO NOT COPY ANY PATH.

Click the Search button, wait until it scans your drives, and it will find the il2fb.exe file for you. Then you just click Save and off you go logging in (and meeting your next problem, whatever that may be http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif)

For some reason, the path in HL is the old 8.3 DOS format, copy/pasting a full path name into it is going to lead to problems.

ASE is better if you just want to dogfight, HL maybe better if you want to fly co-operative missions as well. If you were an offliners for years, I strongly recommend to play in co-op missions first, else...
...nevermind, you will find out anyway http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif (KS, TK, OMG, LOLOLOL, MUWHAHAH,WTF???!!!! and so forth)

I don`t like `All-seeing eye` in a triangle like that, it`s creepy. I mean doesn`t anyone else feel it? The creepiness? Anybody?

You get TeamSpeak yet? If not rush right out and get the free DL. Many dudes can help you sort through it in a few minutes on TS.

If you need some TS IP's (hell, if you want some IL2 server IP's) let me know.

Once again, thanks all! I'm back playin' online. I see I need to hone my, um, skills a bit - hehe!
Thanks to TgD for your help and offering IP's. I guess I'm all set (except for my flying abilities!).
