I have $5 that says the first Targ vote was cast by Targ.

I think they all do a pretty good job at times, so I wont vote.

I also think they've completely failed thier duties regarding that swatsnicker thread in the PF forum, but I'm somehow nonbiased and therefore completely off-base.

do not understand the poll

12-27-2004, 09:33 PM
I think the one thing we can all agree on is that regardless of what you might think of their particular style, they are doing a pretty thankless job for free, for the general benefit of everyone who comes here.

12-27-2004, 09:49 PM
if we had to vote into office our moderators id say they would all make it except targ and bearcat.

thats just on a strictly democratic method.

i dont think i broke any rules on this post.

crossing my fingers.

I refuse to criticize someone whos' job I wouldn't want.

I can only say thank you to anyone willing to monitor a public forum for free....those guys do a thankless job and they all do it well.

12-27-2004, 09:58 PM
They all do good jobs. But Bearcat is the most fire and brimstone when nessicary. Ivan is the funniest.

He's no longer a mod apparently, but I always thought Tully was fine.

Correct, I'm no longer a moderator, but thanks for the thought.

The list above has missed T_O_A_D.

I think that thought their styles differ markedly, they all do a good job. I also find that the different styles of each moderator complement each other quite well and the overall result is more than the sum of the parts.

I like ALL the moderators.....

Because they cruise the forums so much they fly like **** and I get lots and lots of kills off them

Inevitably they will be judged by fellow members. I think there's a healthy balance here and comparing these Mods to those in other forums I've been to in these past few years, I also think they rate well.

Many in communities think for themselves and I've never seen a Mod given the position who hasn't respected others' opinions. A big part of the reason they're given the job is because they have a healthy respect.

I would like to see some of them open up even more with feelings on certain subjects, even those with heavy emotion, and be less restrictive with forum subject matter and differing opinions from members. I haven't been here too long though and can't say I know better http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I won't vote because I think they all do a outstanding job of taking into account the topic content vs the age range of this forum. This forum draws people from preteen to 80+ and what may be suitable for older members may not be so for those younger members.

12-28-2004, 01:54 AM
I wont cast a vote on this as I think they all do a good job, and after all I have never fallen foul of them so I have no reason to dislike any of them. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/mockface.gif

It's a thankless job and they are wellcome to it http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif

12-28-2004, 02:07 AM
I think the mods do a fine job.

The problem is flak happy idiot's who can't get it into their heads that this forum is not a free for all.

12-28-2004, 02:43 AM
Just look at the number of their replies and it is obvious they ALL spend a great deal of their own time and considerable efort making sure this forum is run well. Its a thankless task as everyone has a point of view- thats why we come here http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif - and everyone has their own standards but I think they have the balance right.

so Im not getting involved in this pissing contest by voting - Ill just try and stay friendly to all

12-28-2004, 03:23 AM
Certainly wasn't meant to start a pissing contest in the pit of *****. A lot of our current moderators got the position due to community lobbying for their inclusion on the mods list, around when the forums were taking far too much traffic for the number of mods at the time to police properly. I was more wondering who people think has worked out from this experiment, and how deep some of the complaints we've been seeing lately about moderation style really run.

Despite all the complaining lately it doesn't look as though there is any serious problem, everyones got at least one vote [sorry Toad - only had 5 slots to use :<], and there doesn't seem to be any great call for a fresh batch of people to be inducted in.

12-28-2004, 03:30 AM
Now the but kissers move to the left side of the room and the rest of you guys are being sent to Siberia. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I voted.

No, Darnit!!! I'm not sayin' who I voted for http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

I think the poll should be for who we DISagree with the most. I feel they have all done a great job. The only one I have seen make some bad judgement calls is the one that has a name that sounds alot like something you shoot at.

But, I agree with it being a totally thankless job. One that I would not be willing to except if ever asked. These guys all do a wonderful job 90% of the time.

I did not vote because I can't pick a favorite.

12-28-2004, 09:42 AM
I wont vote either. This place is a zoo sometimes and it must be frustrating trying to moderate it(Coastie i bet you would make great mod !)

12-28-2004, 09:58 AM
Can I take my vote back? I thought this was which MOD sucks thread. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-mad.gif

12-28-2004, 10:17 AM
Here of late I would say BC is the most passionate at the job, then Ivan, then Steve_V, after that the rest of us practice BZ if we are here and you screw up, we shoot. Hopefully we shoot straight, I missed a joke the other day and gave out a ban. But Its not our job to read between all the lines. It was a troll thread anyway http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

When I'm here if I have time I read the first two pages or atleast back to my last post made, if its before the end of second page.

I would have asked which is the worst mod if I wanted to pick a fight :> I think it is useful just to get it out in the open which mods particular moderation style people here are most comfortable with, though.

If I could give Hunter82 an extra few votes I would - the work he does for people in the tech support forum is gold, plus mirroring mudmovers when it died, and a hundred-odd other things he has done over the years to help people out.

I think there could perhaps stand to be a touch more communication between mods when it comes to the extreme options available to them - deleting threads or users accounts and the like. Maybe make it more collaborative and less focussed down on the particular mod who visibly chooses to do it.

I agree with Tully that the different styles seem to complement each other well in total.

I duno to be honest I kinda like bearcats style but he needs a short leash at times as one or two have had nasty bites when in close proximity. As for the other guys? I think they are getting too much bromine in their tea if you ask me http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
