View Full Version : From Oleg Maddox on Cheating

I`v exchange couple of e-mails with O.M. Regarding cheating and he gave me permission to post this:

"We now release later v1.22 than planned due to inclusion of more procedures of oline anticheat check.
With the release of the Aces Expansion Pack - there will be even more check for cheaters that to prevent possible in future cheats that unknown for us curently.

Why peole don't like to play fair? And then when we make next new anticheat procedures in code for known cheats they say that we do bad work!
In my opinion these that are not fair in game are the same in life.

You may post it."

So it`s gonna get even tighter...conclusion: cheaters should learn how to fly http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

Typical. Unfortunately, though I appreciate his efforts, the cheaters will keep trying. They love it if they can ruin it for all. Looks like offline Campaign`s gonna become the mainstay for me.

Well it's good to hear that OLeg and team keep continuing to keep these P.O.S's from doing their nasty bit to ruin the game for us. But I don't really think that cheating is all that prevelant, I can only think of two occassions in my over 2 years playing these games I have seen anything questionable. Perhaps I fly with fair and honest people, or perhaps people are just over-reacting to this. I don't know, but I like to think we are a much more adult community than to resort to childish things such as cheats. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Il-2 and FB have been amazingly cheat-free over the years, because Oleg has implemented great security from day 1. Very good to hear he'll continue doing that!

Well, good to hear that measures are in hand to deal with the cheats http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Worth a delayed patch if you ask me http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

"As weaponry, both were good, but in far different ways from each other. In a nutshell, I describe it this way: if the FW 190 was a sabre, the 109 was a florett, or foil, like that used in the precision art of fencing." - Gunther Rall

Although I haven't seen any obvious cheating, and even though I don't know if the measures currently in place are enough to stop the speedhack (there's supposedly a line in the config file that is supposed to deal with it), I'm glad to hear Oleg is still doing his best to keep this sim realistic and enjoyable. Thanks Oleg for all the hard work!

These new anti-cheat measures should have a name.

If the Raven Shield anti-cheat is PunkBuster, then FB should have a name for itā's anti-cheat as well, that sounds just as good.

Like PunkBuster the name should suggest that if you cheat, your *** will be kicked off the server.

We canā't have the measures referred to as just the ā˜anti-cheat measuresā'.

That would not do at all.

Can anyone think of a good name for the new ā˜measuresā'?

Iā'll put the best suggestions in a pole and we can all have a vote.

As glad as I am that Oleg and the crew are going to do what they can to screw these losers over, it just figures. Bad enough that they're such crappy pilots that they worked so diligently to find this cheat, maybe if they spent the time learning some basic acm instead of figuring out how to cheat, they wouldn't need it. There's no honor in cheating, and I don't want to hear "Real pilots use every exploit they can, so I should be able to too". Thanks cheaters, thanks a lot. S~ to all the honorable pilots out there, see you online.

In a strange way, I am glad the patch will be delayed...at least they are looking at the cheating problem (however bad it really is) and sorting it out.

Worse would have been to get the patch out as planned, with no extra measures in it...we would still have the witch hunt for cheats every time someone gets shot down otherwise.

nothing destroys a game community quicker than cheating in that game. on the bright side, with the delay, maybe it gave some of the modelers more time to tighten up their work and the others more time to fine tune the DM's and FM's

News from Oleg Maddox! The free patch 1.22 with bug fixes is to be released in this week.

From an email I received from him today:

quote:
As I told we did NEW additional check for speed hack in v.1.22 that will be
released on this week.
Then we added even more checks for cheaters in add-on that will be released
in February.
...
1.22 is a free patch with some fixes.

Paid Add-on probably will be 1.3 or 2.0

Will these put even more overhead for online play?

Thanks Oleg (and CrazyIvan, et al.) for getting on this case even though it is likely to be a relatively small proportion of players responsible.

Since cheaters are the worst enemy and enemies are often called "bogies" in air combat (well actually unidentified aircraft are called bogies), how about calling the anti-cheat measures, "BogieBusters"? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

I have a suggestion CrazyIvan (since you seemed able to converse w/ O.M).

There should be some sort of online reporting device, where people can enter the name of someone they truely thought was a cheater, and if enough people report the same person, action would be taken. Something like an IP Identifier to keep people from spamming other people would be needed as well.

This is just a very rough very off the top of my head idea... but I think there shoudl be more community envolvment in this. The beautiful thing about the IL-2 community simply is.. most people are GOOD GUYS, and just want to fly.

I agree with you to some extent, cheaters should be exposed and punished...but... just to give you an example... use of speedhack indicates in the log in the same manner as a hardware problems. I cant remember if this game has a cd key or not but it would be nice if you could ban the cd key so they can never connect to multiplayer games again unless they purchased a new copy of IL2. So lets say the new updates detect cheaters and adds them to a master ban list. That would be perfect and cost those cheating bastards another $50 bucks if they ever want to play online again.

My guess is that with more anti-cheat measures in place we will see some of the super aces fall from glory. Maybe it is time for some of them to learn some real skills and save face.

Of course this is coming from one of the lowest scoring players on most servers. But at least I came by that honestly http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

The problem is, you can't just be a super-ace because of a speedhack.

Sure, you can kill some TnB'ers if you do it right.. but if your in a FR server, you're still at the mercy of BnZ'ers.
