I am just getting back to IL2 after buying 1946!!
I see that there is an heir apperent in the works.
Is there an updated official info thread??
How about screens or videos??
I see that it is taking longer than first thought. But im used to waiting(FH2). But I would just like to know more about this game where it stands at this point. Thank you

No one really knows. There's a lack of information coming from the publisher and developer.
I don't know if your version of IL2 1946 came with the bonus DVD with movies and screenshots of BoB, but there is a bunch of info there.
There hasn't even been a recent projected release. Some online stores say one thing while others have totally different dates.

Oleg's a perfectionist, and won't release until he's satisfied. In time it will be released......just that no one knows when. So patience is the word of the day.

Oleg has done plenty to earn my patience. I took a long break anyway, so I need to relearn with 1946. And no mine did not come with DVD. I got it from ebay..... But if anyone has a link to the video, I would love to see it.

Whenever there is news on this subject, it will likely be here first: http://forum.1cpublishing.eu/viewtopic.php?t=192

Here are a bunch of SoW:BoB clips that are on the Bonus DVD.

These are very early renders. So don't judge the landscape. Water effects look cool.

What is known?

Storm of War will be a series of simulations that 'build' on each other, such as the Il2:Forgotten battles series did. It is unclear (but unlikely in my opinion) that any "SoW" sim will be 'standalone', other than the very first installment, and additional titles will be major add-ons rather than standalone products

The first installment is reported to be "The Battle of Britain"

Relatively small numbers of flyables will initially be released, and the number will grow as time progresses, similar to the Il2:FB series in a way, but there will be much less in the way of flyables initially compared to Il2:FB

The aircraft will be of higher sophistication from a programming standpoint, and will have much greater detail than is (currently) seen, as well as higher fidelity from the point of view of the player

Weather will be dynamic, in that clouds and fronts move. For instance, a map will not have all the same weather at every location

The single player campaign will be of two types (but this is not necessarily the final version of the campaigns, this is just as the developer has reported):

1) Dynamic, in which the player can effect the outcome

2) Historic (not necessarily static), in which events unfold as reality dictated

Ground detail, terrain, and objects are of much higher quality than is seen now

Potentially the player will be able to man various ground weapons such as AA guns

Squadron management has been discussed as a feature

The number of BoB flyable planes is pretty darn good, and will include Italian fighters at least. FB 1.0 had roughly the same number of flyables, a bit more I think but comparable -- not counting the endless easy to add Bf, Fw, and Yak subtypes of course. As BoB And Beyond progresses, more flyables will appear, hopefully including planes missed in the first releace that may have served in other theaters, but can also be called upon when playing the Channel war. Considering that FB 1.0 attempted to cover the entire EF war 1941-1945, the planeset was not really that large -- mostly fighters. Today it is much larger. The same should happen for BoB And Beyond.

the realy good thing in comprison to the original IL2 release in 2001 will be SoW:BoB's amount of flyable bombers:
Blenheim IV
FIAT Br.20M
Ju88A-1
Ju87B-2
He111H

at least these so far the WIP pictures are telling http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I heard rumors in the BoB wishlist forum that only the *beta* might be released this year. And they said it could be possible to even forget a next christmas realease. Personally I'm quite content with IL-2 and have a hard time thinking about a game that even better. But I know Oleg is doing nothing short of AMAZING so lets give him our thanks no complaints.

I personally don't think 1c has the talent to deliver. I bet their having huge technical issues trying to make the sim marketable.

So far IC has shown more talent than any other combat flight sim developer. I agree that it will be very difficult for the IC team to put all the features they'd hoped into the SOW series.
I give the IC team a very good chance to pull it off. They have already delivered the current benchmark in combat flight sims so I'm not sure why your so pesimistic or have some other troll agenda.

I have faith - But I fear somethings (Game Play) will have to be sacrificed.

I recon that 1C should have game play down pat. It's an established genre of game and they have a LOT of experience with flight sims.

I think the hard part will be/is the (very subjective) 'feel' of the sim. Making you feel like your behind the controls of a 1100+hp 5000kg fighter, fighting for your country.

I think that will make or break the sim.

There is of course my video from last year (in-fact almost to the year)), which I asked Oleg a few Questions:

Just in-case you never saw it!

Cheers, MP.

Oleg is waiting for computer technology to catch up to his programming. Yeah, that's the ticket!

So far it has been vaporware, but I did hear that it will be released on February 30.

BOB has been delayed again, developers resources have been diluted by the on-line code protection issues.

Yeah. I am sure the crack is the only reason why BoB is not released yet. I also heared it was the reason for the war in Iraq and they have to blow up the moon before BoB will be released. So it will probably take a while.

fair enough, but we still have no sufficient explanation on the lack of endorsement of the Kyoto protocol and the continous melting of ice at the poles... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

I understand one of the major hold-ups is difficulty modelling the smoke from Woodbine cigarettes.

They had no problem with Players, but the filterless tips of the cheaper cigarettes makes the spiralling more complex.
