Hello metalkingtiger,

I may be wrong but Freedomtown is on the border of lake Chad ! If you're thinking of Freetown, I would not say that it is worth the trip.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

I have encountered large ALL BRITISH convoys just west of Freetown several times in ???40 and ???41.

Just ???pop??? the escorts, and then have a field day with your deck gun!

If I have a patrol square in the southern areas that isn???t producing, I will always slink down to Freetown, ???..if fuel allows.

Thank you klcarrol. Do you know if the VIIc can make the trip down there, then to SW Ireland , and then back to France again? I measured the trip and it is like 4,500 Kilometers but I don't know the sub's range in Kilometers.

Maybe you've already seen this, but in case you haven't I share it with you now. A humorous view of the various types of people to be found in an internet forum:

Flame Warriors List (http://redwing.hutman.net/%7Emreed/index.htm)

Just click on the drop-down list to view the various entries, or click "begin." I've seen a few of the types mentioned, but I'll not name any names. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif<div class="ev_tpc_signature">

For a VIIC take the equator as your border, or the southern edge of great grid square ET. You can make it there at a constant speed of "Ahead 1/3" (9-10knots) provided you don't do extra tours: From French base, go to BF 71, then due South until Gibraltar is due East of your position, then change course towards the Canaries and on SSW towards the centre of the great grid square DT, again change course to due South till you reach the Cape Verde Islands, and from there continue on a direct course to your patrol grid square, or to Freetown.
Max 24h at destination, at "All Ahead Slow", then straight back on the same route on "All Ahead 1/3" and no extra tours to Gibraltar or Ireland.
Additional hints:
- Do NOT pursue any contacts that would require you to do more than 150km in AK speed; avoid doing more than a total of 500km at AK speed during entire patrol. If you exceed this, do about five times the additional AK-run distance in "All Ahead Slow" (3-4knots) to save the corresponding amount of fuel.
- Do not run too close to the African coast (virtually no single merchant traffic, and most convoys sail at least three grid squares out from the coast.

N.B. If you play UBWA and are bored because you didn't find anything, make a small detour to pay a visit to Sidi Ifni on the return trip; some entertainment almost guaranteed. Mind sub net stretching from SW lighthouse in a direct line 80% of the way to NE lighthouse; no mines.

It you have the patience you can significantly increase your range by alternating between diesel @1/3 and batteries.<div class="ev_tpc_signature">
