The last time I promise, unless you have questions. I am just a simple AI coder and can not seem to get all the required information on this simple anouncement. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

"This update has been brought to you by the freeware BDG (BoB Developers Group) team and A2A (was Shockwave) has had nothing to do with BOBII since the 2.06 update"

OK, now I think I am legal. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

BTW, the 10 or so new ships that Ben did not make 2.08 as they need (Death animation, wake, AA, and damage). We will get them out as soon as we can post 2.08.

Congratulations on the simple AI. What I've flown so far against the AI has been simply incredible. Very good opponents. The sim looks incredible. Anyone waiting patiently for SoW:BoB will enjoy this sim in the meantime.

The game is $20 and all the BDG updates are free since Nov 2005.

You can buy it here from A2A, maybe a few used in the stores, maybe bid for a copy on Ebay:

http://www.a2asimulations.com/bob/

The A2A version for purchase is at the 2.06 level but you can download and update to the 2.08 Level for free.

BOBII has the best AI in the world but then I am the developer so you can not really believe me. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/clap.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

OK - I have to ask a question, having been largely out of the loop lately when it comes to flightsims. Am I OK if I just re-install the game and apply this newest patch, i.e. there's nothing else I need?

Correct? Just do a fresh install of the BOBII CD (or download Purchase) and then install the 2.08 Update and the 2.08 Multiskin Update (if you ahve a 256 MB GFX card).

NOTE: You will need the latest DirectX (June 2008). Just follow the link to the Microsoft Web page when running the self-installer.

Here is some performace information as BOBII take a bit more PC processor performance than IL2, IMHO, and I have no idea about your PC specs.

Here is a link you may find helpful. It has a ton of information, a profile many love and use, and some super tips for game play:

http://www.a2asimulations.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=6524

To turn on TrakIR4 in BOBII:

1. start the TrackIR SW
2. To Enable in BOBII go to options->Adv->Game and tic the trackir box also do it to the Vector Expansion box if you have 6DOF.

ANNOUNCEMENT Sunday 13th July 2008
Our sincere apologies. An infrequent crash is being reported in AI gunner code (It can occur in missions with any movable gun [bombers, Bf110, Ju87]).
If you have such a problem, please follow this thread and update the two files contained in the small download. (bob.exe, bob.pdb)
We have been testing for a long time and this one sneaked through, unfortunately...Sorry! This is one of the risks when you add new AI features.

Once again, I`m impressed. been flying the single player campaign as part of 65 squadron, 11th group on Hornchurch airfield.

I have it set up like IL2 now. Every 65 flight I take off from, fly and land (speeding up on non-event patrols). I chose to have the choice of Hurris or Spitfires, but right now we seem to just be allocated Spits. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

Gotta admit the landscape looks really detailed now.

Aircraft fly very smoothly and I am now only seconds behind aircrfat on takeoff. I`ve got the takeoff procedeure almost perfected.

I set the campaign on Medium/Medium with optimum German luftwaffe tactics and they didn`t waste time on much bombing of ships and started coming straight in to our land based facilities. Been meeting a lot of 110s in our Spitfires. 3 kills in 4 missions so far.

Not seen any bugs yet, but I did get one CTD when fast-forwarding on waypoints.

Thanks for giving 2.08 a try and thanks for the report.

If you have the time can you post the first 20 lines of the crashlog from the CTD? Did you apply the "Hot Fix"?

There is a Vista thread on the Technical A2A form with most of the small tweaks needed.

http://www.a2asimulations.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7937

In gereral BOBII run fine in Vista with very few issues.

BOBII will love your PC as BOBII is alot more CPU procesing intensive than IL2, IMHO.

http://www.a2asimulations.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10091

We have some issues with the new ATI HD cards but the drivers seem to have solved the GFX issues we were having.

NP. Glad it worked. These PC environments are getting so complex now with different tool, products, OS, virus software, etc, that it is getting harder to get anything to work even with good testing.

Kinda makes the consoles look super where you can control the Hardware and software.I have been ask to implement my AI on the console but I guess I am getting too old to change horses.

Jaggy.

Hi Panzer, sorry for the learning curve and sorry but we do not have video tutorials. The BDG is a small team of unpaid volunteers and we have focused on game play, fixing problems/issues, landscape, new objects around AF (France and the UK), new functions, and of course the AI maneuvers.

Yes, BOBII is a full function WWII with over 200 keys, over 100 options, interactive cockpit, TrackIR4 6DOF, many Instant action missions, and a dynamic campaign simulating each day of the BOB.

BOBII does have a learning curve like every full function sim and some complexity. We have not found an effect way to short cut the learning curve so we have focused on a good User Manual (almost 400 pages and the best manual our manpower can provide).

We recommend you learn BOBII in chunks. Start out with default options and keys and run the instant action missions to understand how BOBII plays and see the AI in action. Then start to understand the options (manual appendix A) and features.

We do have many of our IL2 friends that seem to be able to learn and play their favorite IL2 game and BOBII as well. They seem to have time to master all the features and options of both games. I do understand that to play both games effectively may take more hobby time and effort then many people have. SeaFireLIV and Chivas are two (of many)of our IL2 friends who are very experienced on both Sims, and they were/are Beta Tester for BOBII back in the "darker" problem days for BOBII.

I have IL2 on my hard drive since the original IL2 came out and I am still learning more details weekly on 1946. Learning is after all one of the primary things I enjoy about full function flight sims but then I am retired and have the time. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-happy.gif

I just loaded BOBII WoV on my Vista machine and run it fine unpatched. The problem begins when I patch it. I tried the 2.08 patch and at first got the d3dx9_37.d11 error and I could not load it. So I updated the direct x from the download page and was able to get to main menu. When I tried instant action I hit fly and either I get a black screen or I get a page that says loading landscape but nothing happens. When I start task manager it just says not responding. Any ideas? I have a 8800 GT video card with the 32 bit version of Vista.

Thanks!

Sorry for the issue. With all the new PC's, OS, and Software, out in the market, it takes some tweaking to get some of our customers going.

We have had a video driver issue. Check this thread:

http://www.a2asimulations.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10851&start=15

Most of this issues loading have been spyware and virus software problems (checking files. See thsi thread:

http://www.a2asimulations.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=9678

We have a few minor tweaks for Vista but Vista seems to mostly run BOBII well. Check this thread:

http://www.a2asimulations.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=7937

It might be best if you come to the BOBII Technical Forum and let all the guys try to get you up and flying.

Hi,

First, your PC looks super and BOBII will love it. I see nothing wrong. BOBII does require the latest DirectX but I think you have that solved.

I would first like to ensure you have a good install. I want to ensure you have the same files that have and no corrupted files.

Here is the install procedure I recommend. Please give it a try first as it is the first step in debugging a issue:

Each Step is Important

1. re-download the 2.08 self installer just to ensure the old download was not bad
2. Uninstall old version or BoBII
3. Delete all files from the BoBII folder. IMPORTANT: These old files left by the uninstaller can cause issues with the new EXE.
4. Run a registry cleaner (like CC cleaner - a free program) as you had an old install of BobII
5. Reinstall BoBII game CD or your purchased Download 2.06 version
6. Run 2.08 patch self-loaders (only 2.08 patch) by double clicking on it after unpacking with RAR

After a good clean install, the biggest problem we have had is:

Norton virus SW
Bit Defender virus SW
and now AVG8 virus SW

These programs prevent or slow the loading of files for some yet to be determined reason.
Also any spy ware programs also cause slow loading of files.

Most of our customers have gone to the free AVAST virus software.

Here is a quote from one of our Senior BDG members concerning Norton:

"When I bought a new computer with Vista OS, that had Norton on it,
the very first thing that I did was to remove Norton.

I installed AVAST, which I like, as it is non-intrusive to games while running,
and after 2 years has not let any virus in, that I know of."

Last for now, do you have a wide screen monitor?

If you do have a wide screen monitor, set in Options->GFX , Use Windows Desktop Resolution (recommended) = OFF

Then select you resolution manually from the pulldown to as close match as possible to your monitor's native resolution.

Buddeye,

You are awesome! I uninstalled the software, downloaded the CC registery cleaner, ran it, got rid of the errors and clutter, reloaded BOB and then 2.08 and Viola! It works! I just love the graphics and the realism. Thanks you so much for helping me out! :&gthttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Thanks for posting and giving me the news.

I hope you enjoy BobII and watch out for those mean 109 AI.I coded in some mean ones.

Review the User Manual (located in the BobII folder in the Docs manual), it is the best in the business.
