Hi,
I own IL2 sturmovik: forgotten battles (cd's are made in 2003 so I think it haven't any expansion pack)

can I download the ace expansion for free or do I have to pay for it?

You have to pay for it.

The great news for you is that it is so many generations old that you should be able to find it used for really cheap.

My advice, though, is to just put your money into buying the full version of 1946. It is the culmination of FB+AEP+PF plus three more expansions. It all installs in one shot too. And a great reason to get 1946 is that you can then download Enjoyr's free DGen campaign addon patches.

ACE Expansion Pack is something that you have to pay for.

But you may as well just get the latest version of the game which is IL2 1946. It includes all previous releases of the game. And if you want to play online, you'll need the latest version to play.

You can find it for about $20, or maybe even cheaper... I picked it up at Circuit City about 6 months ago on a special sale for just $10.
