View Full Version : A bit OT computer problem...need suggestions!

I have a one-year-old Gateway NV52 laptop running Vista Home Premium Service Pack 2. AMD Athlon 64x2 QL-64, 320 GB HDD, 4 GB Memory.

About 2 weeks ago I began having an on-again, off-again problem. A 2" x 2" semi-transparent volume icon shows up in the bottom 1/3 of the screen at center. It shows through every program and worse yet, flickers in the background while playing SH3-GWX Gold v. 3.0.

Nothing seems to get rid of it. Playing with the volume controls via taskbar or Function keys does nothing. Both right clicking & left clinking doesn't affect it.

Does anyone know how to get rid of this annoying problem? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/compsmash.gif

Thanks for your help!

This is a long-shot, but you describe a similar problem I had last year. Like I said though, this is probably a long-shot.

My problem was that in the "Display" options I had enabled another screen display. My friend/Comp Guru told me that my operating system was splitting my monitor into a split-type screen with the settings that I had.

I was able to look into my display properties and did indeed find that the machine driving another monitor. Once disabled this fixed the problem I was having.

I hope this helps, If not then please be patient while others respond. These guys know quite a bit.

Best of Luck

Thank you for your quick reasponse. I checked my Display setting & it's set for the Pnp Generic Monitor which seems to be the Default. I was unable to change it to anything else.

Thank you though,
that was a good guess! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

The issue seemed to correct itself just prior to your response. Just to make sure, I'll check the Display setings when the issue re-occurs.

Thanks again for the advice
