What graphics card do you have?

I decided to make this topic because Im thinking of purchasing a new graphics card and would like some insight into how graphics cards generally perform(fps) and what cards everyone is using.

Then you need to include CPU specs as well because much of this sims performance is CPU driven.

I use a 7950Gx2 on an Fx-60 CPU w 4GDDR 400..

I get frames in the 50s & 70s depending on themap

Using a Geforce 8800 GT on a Intel Core Duo 2,6MHz, 4GB DDR2 Ram Combo with Vista Home Premium.

Il2 is maxed out to the limit including 16x AF and 8xAA. I get around 50 frames.

GeForce 8600 GTS w/512 MB RAM
Athlon 64 3500+ with a measly 1GB PC3200 RAM (I've had mobo compatibility issues trying to add RAM, else I'd have 2 GB)

I typically get frames in the 20s-low 30s with everything turned on, 1680x1050 and 8x AA.

Like Bear hinted at, performance of some games (especially the Microsoft Flight Simulator series) are affected more by CPU and memory than the GPU. I can run FSX OK, but if I had a better CPU, I'd be able to run with much higher landscape details and autogen settings. Right now they have to be firmly planted in the low end of the scale to get frames in the 20s.

Geforce 7900 GS coupled with an AMD 4200+

FAst in everything except Crysis.

Crysis 1024x768 must play on medium.

IL2 - perfect - 1024x768, but with a bief stutter when you first fire you guns only. Smooth excpt that

LOst PLanet Colonies (underated game) SMooth on very high 1024x768.

You really should try and upgrade that 5700 TH, I had a 5900 once and it was an awful card. Anything in PS is a slideshow. You can pick up a 7900GS for peanuts now. Mine was 60 around 8 months ago.

Its really just relaitive mate, my 7900GS is low end for someone with a brand new 9800 Nvidia.

Seeing as how cheap it woul dbe to upgrade your 5700FX, you could get a far far faster card for not too much money

AGP cards are quite sought after these days becasue people dont want to have to change their motherboard to get a PCI-E slot. HOwever even a 6600GT will be a big improvement on your 5700 for around 35.

I get good (never actually checked) framerates on the best settings for everything (except water).

Really, with the age of this game, if you have a remotely modern setup, it'll be fine. Heck, even my old 9800 Pro didn't have much of a problem with it....

That being said, I kind of want to grab a X1800XT crossfire edition, now that they aren't top of the line and should be cheaper :/

Ati X1950XT 256MB and AMD X2 3800+ (@2.8GHz), 2GB RAM. I usually see frame rates in the 25-50 fps range running 1280x1024 res (vsync on). Averages ~36fps on The Black Death.

I've also run a 7900GS on the same rig and in that case the avg FPS for TBD was ~30.

Yo, I have an ATI Radeon 4870 card

It smokes! Check out some benchmarks:

The 4850/4870 line of cards from ATI seems to beat most of nvidias offerings, especially at higher resolutions, I run 1920x1200

I just recently got an ATI Radeon HD4870.
It's an awesome card. Before i was playing in the low 20's to the single digits, big formations were a no-no. (OK, i also got an AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ and 2 GB Kingston HyperX 800 Mhz DDR-2 RAM, but theyre already limiting the card badly. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/compsmash.gif )

Average difference in fps on Black Death when switching from 1280x960 to 1600x1200. 50->40
Got everything turned up, AA and AF and whatnot maxed out, and the rest is limiting the card. Seems to me that IL-2 benefits much more from CPU and RAM power than anything else.

Meh. But at least i can play CoD4 and Crysis now. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

Well XP64 will do it but XP64 is a dog of an OS.

The ram limitation is not an XP issue its a 32 bit issue. Vista32 and XP32 are BOTH limited to 2Gb ram for applications normally (or 3Gb with apps specially written to access more ram).

Currently using a 8800gt and very happy with it overall. One of the things I like best about it is it can resolve aircraft at pretty long distances even with 8x AA. In coops my flying buddies always have me fly lead for this reason. It is interesting that seven months ago the 8800gt was nearly the king of the hill and now it's considered mid-range and can be found for less than $150US NIB. My old 7800gt did very well with IL-2, especially in SLI, though the image quality was somewhat lacking compared to the 8800gt (except the 7800gt 8xS AA completely wiped out coastline jaggies). BTW, I still got my Ti4200 in my spare 1.6G P4 system.

See systems specs below. I run at 1920x1200 32bit. I have the game's graphics settings pretty much maxed out (perfect, water=4, Forest=3, etc). I leave AA at 8x becasue anything higher doesn't make much difference at 1920x1200. With VSYNC ON, I get 50-60 FPS nearly all the time. It will drop into the 30s when things get really busy, especially near water.

Year old system, except for the gpu. Runs well, but over large cities this setup slows down a bit. first system I used for original il2 was amd2400+ and 9200 (or was it 9100) Ati card years ago. Still got the same problems, slower performance over large cities and large quantities of aircraft do slow the system, nothing to worry much,..but.

Back to the first post, If you're updating an old MB with a New or Newer Graphics card be careful! I had a Soyo Black Dragon MB Amd2800 and an FX5700le 128, I thought a bigger, badder graphics card would do the trick so I got a 512Mb Nv7600 AGP, oops it's a powered card got it's own little dangle and I don't have a big enough PS so I bought a 500watter got the card working, burned out mommy board! Sooo I had to buy a new MB for the new card thats' like the last AGP slot one available and now I'm going to be upgrading again...
I would research what you need. Get with someone who knows the parts if you don't and build it from NewEgg or similar. Reasonably easy to do.

A super-clocked EVGA 8800GT with a dual slot Akimbo fan set up. It runs very cool, never seen it higher than 62C for any length of time. And even above Berlin or Leningrad the frames are high. I'm very happy with it. EVGA is simply the best and I only paid about $210.00US for it after $30.00 rebate.
