It does look quite good, I hope it will be improved functionally too. The news about AI behaviour and Modability are good news http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif I am an offline player mainly so if third party planes are banned from online usage I couldn't care less http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

They are very compressed though. Not high res.

Well this looks nice...

My personal opinion is that we will see biggest improvement in ground modeling... it just looks excellent. Exciting.

Some other prospects as well... mounting AA gun etc.

We might get as many as 30 flyable planes. I wonder if the Me-109dD's will be modeled.

Obviously some textures from the pics are from IL2, e.g. the farmland in some pics, the sky and the gunsight ring.

This year released? Where is the game website? where are the monthly updates? Is anyone at the helm?

What disappoints me about this news is that, we guys have been on these forums for years, literally years, and yet we have to search and scrounge around the internet to find any news and updates on the game that we are all anticipating.

Now how's this for an idea.

A page on this very website that says BoB updates and the latest news.

After all, that is why we are on these forums....because we want the game and like the one we have at the moment!

So come on guys, keep the updates here for us, and let the other websites link to us, not the other way around!

Thanks for the heads-up though mate, just annoying it wasn't here first.

Cheers, MP.

It is about time. Considering this thing is supposed to be be less than a year from release we should have an official news source!

They are protecting us.
That's why we always see older screenshots when they are posting news.
Otherwise we would all go insane or die waiting for it and they would have no customers.

Nope they probably don't want us to know too much because we may be disappointed in the campaign side and the sounds.
Shame really because good constructive imput from very knowledgable forumites could make the sim go the extra mile.

Wow, they have improved the trees. Very nice.

Every now and then I crash into the trees we currently have. They are hard to see when at or below tree level.

The skin looks OK, it's the one we've seen before in WIP screenshots, I think it's just that the video settings are low. You can't really compain too much about it:

I don't think it always had flush rivits.
I remember there is a story about testing for effects of rivits by covering an aircraft (Spitfire maybe?)
with pea halves to see the difference it would make to the top speed.

Slightly more visible rivits:

Well, I agree with you, that rivets and panel-lines are overdone on most skins, but rivets are not invisible or something. It depends a lot on angle and quality of the picture.

Frankly these screenshots are a bit disheartening for me, the new models don't look much better than the old ones... yes, a little more polygons, little better textures perhaps but apart from that ...? From the pic where the Emil shots up the Spit from behind, I can't see any dynamic damage occuring (ie. panels being blown off from exactly the hit occurs, and unreveal the structure beneath - this would be nothing new, B-17 FF2 could do this before even Il2 was released.

It's all the same pixel debris behind the plane, no bigger chunks flowing off from cannon fire for example, and I can't see how the models are improved grahpically with new shaders or bump maps, which would be the minimum. Now evidence of self-shadows.. and the whole front of the Emil in the background lights up from cannon fire - overdrawn effects not taking advantage of new technology.

The terrain is wonderful though.

Yes, the split pea story was the Spitfire, but it was done very early in the development process, to decide which areas needed to be flush riveted, and which could be 'got away with'.

The fuselage parts were dome-riveted, and most others were using flush rivets. It was decided early on in the development that dome rivets in a few less exposed places like the fuselage don't cause that much of a permance loss, just a couple of miles per hour, whereas in the wings where it would meant as much as 10 mph IIRC flush rivets were used. It was a good compromise between build quality and quantity, and this mixed riveting was so on most Spitfires produced during the war, ie. Mk I, Mk V, Mk IX.

The only ones that had flush-riveting everywhere were the ones building on the new Mk VIII airframe, ie. VII, VIII, and XIV, plus half of the XII (the rest being Mk V conversions iirc).
