There are just a tiny handful of aircraft in IL-2 that actually have engine fire extinguishers at their disposal (TB-3 comes to mind for example) but I was wondering of all the aircraft we have in the sim including AIs which actually had such systems?

Did bombers such as the B-17, 24, 29, ... have them and from which version on!

Such information would be highly interesting

There are several planes in Il2 that have the extinguishers.
The Mossie is one.
I do believe that the planes that had them are modeled in Il2.

i think one of the macchi 202s has it

it is also on the do335, mossie, tb3 and B25 (although ive never had engine fire on b25 to actually be able to USE it, always inboard fuel tanks http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-mad.gif)

automatic fuel tank fire ext. are MISSING from the A5M5b's and c's however

OT, but its odd that while P47s, P51s for example have back-up/emergency manual landing gear extension, these are the only types in game that actually suffer from damage to hydralic systems in the first place! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Thanks for the info! I do know that the mentioned aircraft have fire extinguishers - little known fact also is that the Ki-61-I Hei has one too (the other Hiens dont).

However what I wanted to find out was if there are aircraft that are missing them despite historically being equipped with them, for example which of the AI bombers should have them?

Cant be as all MC202s share the same flight model!

I used the extinguisher in a B-25 last night. It didn't help because the fire was in my wing tanks, not engine.

I just compiled a list of all our planes that have extinguishers, and as a bonus, feathering prop pitch, since this is also not an externally visible feature.

Planes with Feathering:
A-20, B-25, Beaufighter, Mosquito, P-38, Bf-110, Do-335, G4M1, He-111, J-8 ( a little of a wtf moment there, since it's fixed pitch wooden prop), Ju-87, Ju-88, MC 205.

Planes with Engine Extinguishers (5x unless noted otherwise):
A-20 (3x), B-25 (3x), Mosquito, Tb-3, Avia B-534 (auto ?x) D0-335, G-50, Mc 200, Sm 79.

For AI planes:
Feathering:
Blenheim, Ki-21, Me-210
Fire extinguisher: Letov S-328 (1x)

I'm betting that won't be the case in SoW, considering that prop pitch will be a visible change http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

Ki-61-I Hei did, in fact Kawasaki was a big manufacturer of them for ships and then applied it to fuel systems. Trouble is in the sim it is wrong, in real live they were for the tanks, not engine.

Do you think TD will look into it? That looks interesting. It would be great in a plane with otherwise unprotected fuel tanks, and should make it more survivable.

I had to use the emergency extraction in the bf110
a few times after getting hit, also i belive to have used it in a 190.

That's not quite correct......A number of aircraft (most likely the majority) can have their hydraulics damaged, and quite a few of those that can be you can manually lower the gear.....Oddly the Ki-61 you cannot, and it VERY clearly has gear emergency uplocks where in with a pull of a single lever they drop.

Hydraulic systems and the result of certain damage in that regard could use some improvement....As to the Ki-61 gear, look here:
