P38L Late.

Lots of speed coupled with 10 rockets and 2 1000lb bombs.

Conversely the G4M1 Betty from 5000+ meters with the 800kg bomb does a good job too...

The IL-2 is quite good at fighting flak guns because of its heavy armor, but I am going to have to lean toward the P-38. High speed, good selection of ordinance and concentrated firepower that is easy to aim in a shallow dive on a flak gun. Not to mention the 2 engine reliability.

Another good option is the A-20. That thing is a beast at ground attack in any form. Its not a hot rod but its fast enough and is fairly maneuverable for its size. Being able to carry the array of ordinance that it does makes it a prime contender as well. Plus I like the personal touch of 6 .50 cals with a skull and crossbones in the center of them. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

I havent flown the Beau enough to give a good opinion on it, but the Mossie would be great if it didnt get hurt so bad by flak. I tried high speed runs on airfields in QMB and even if I made it through the plane was all kinds of fudged up. Half the time it was on fire or had already exploded. I wonder if its DM is bugged?

Actually I think the best choice is dependant on other factors. What kind of area are you attacking? City? Airfield? Convoy? How bad do you expect enemy air cover to be and what kind of escort, if any, are you going to have?

The A-20 is very cool, but when I fly it the flak seems to find it a bigger target, at least at grass mowing height http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
Mossies is great for single blazing pass, but I find the Beau to have best combo of speed, firepower, agility and survivability.
For me that is http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Lots of modern lingo on the boards these days. SEAD? Wild Weasel? What's that, and angry ermine? I thought that I flew against ack-ack and Jerries! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Corsair or P38.

IRL the RAF used the Typhoon for anti flak duties.

SEAD is Supress Enemy Air Defenses.

Wild Weasel was the name given to Vietnam F4 flights that flew ahead of the B-52s and drew missile fire in order to locate the SAM launchers and knock them out before the bombers were overhead. From what I've read, they were the nastiest missions to fly.

Sarcasm, boy-o, sarcasm! I've played many modern sims too! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif I know what APDSFS is too. Also CINCPAC, AIM-9L, and what the "P" stands for in P-38 et al.

P-38, easy!

In Warclouds we had a hard well defended area we needed to attack. So far the AA shot down 3 B-25's that got close, and a few fighters! I took up a P-38 and within 3 missions ALL FLACK WAS GONE!!!

Once you get good at aiming those HVAR, you can pot them easy. I just had a friendly fly by, the flack would open up and I would release! Go into another target, release, and then go in guns blazing. Drop my bombs, pull level and hug the ground on my way out. I did this about 3 times (landing each time for a reload) and called the all clear. B-25's went in and finished the job.

On the otherhand, I got a 7 kill streak on the same server in the P-38. So its the best of both worlds. I dont fly anything else anymore.

The 2 Tiny Tims gives you a nice stand off capabilty + the eight HVARs.
Altenativly 8 HVARs and 3 heavy bombs do the job too.

Good choice, but the f4U is on about 0 servers and cant get off of any carriers at all with any loadouts.

I'll also second for the P-38...twin engine reliability and the 10 HVAR rockets mean you can use proximity hits to destroy whatever AAA is causing you trouble.

I did not vote because I could not vote for the P-38 without including the P-47.

I would much rather use the P-38. On board 20mm cannon, ten rockets, bombs, two engines.

If took a P-47 against air defenses, the first 7mm round that passed by my aircraft would instantly stop my R-2800 cold.
