I ditched mine for ADSL, more stable and a lot faster, especially in the upload department.

yes indeedy-o!

where can I get a good bandwidth tester ? as I am interested, to know exactly how fast mine is (I am in the uk) - lil_labbit something like what you've got would be cool

Patch download took 20 mins - on dial up it would have taken me about 8+ hours! http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gifhttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gifhttp://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I'm on Cable (@Home.nl)

The test I did was with ASE (All Seeing Eye).

I don't know if it's in the shareware version - but it's worth a look -

www.2wire.com (http://www.2wire.com)

Up at the VERY top of the webpage (they've changed this, probably due to high traffic)... you will see something labelled "speed meter".

Click that and you'll get a good practical speed test to compare against your theoretical maximums given by your provider.

If all the servers weren't filled, I'd have it in no time too. But I'm only getting 28.? KB/s, which is WAY slower than normal. But it beats dialup by a long shot.

sorry to burst anyones bubble on speed.. i was working for SBC in the DSL self install help desk...major headaches.

we provision to a max of 1400 feet. if your close to our DSLAM (DIRECT SERVICE LINE ACCESS MULTIPLEXER)great speed.. move on down the line, and its close to dial up in a lot of cases. we were never allowed to tell the customer that the singal drops TREMENDOUSLY up to that 1400 ft limit.

also, the telco has some devices installed that can affect DSL severely.. MOST SALES wont care, if those factors are in your area or not. they will sell it to you first without checking.(even though they say they did)

plus sales will tell you "you wont experience slowdown..like a cable user from everyone being on the line"....its a lie. i heard that tossed around so much... we were working in the office, and most of our computers connected at dial up ...which doesnt help when your doing tech support!!

since working there i will never go DSL...

to many lies i had to encounter to tell the customer, allthough i wanted to say what whas going on....higher ups say "SHHHHHHHHHH"

well, not on topic..but i had to vent... personally i wont go DSL... but your experience may differ.. happy downloading..

Obviously you never experienced Chello cable internet.
@Home is A LOT better but it's not available here.
Chello cable is unstable, a lot slower then advertised and their support desk is populated by complete morons who have no idea what they are doing.

I have been using Demon ADSL since September last year and I didn't have to call their helpdesk once.
The only time internet was down was when they told me it was going to go down via an Email 3 days in advance and it's down at night between 0:00 hours and 6:00 when they are doing maintanence.
