View Full Version : Anyone have a busted X-52 laying around?

My trusty X-45 died on me.. as some of you know I had modified it:

http://file.walagata.com/w/bearcat/X-45mod_0.jpg
http://file.walagata.com/w/bearcat/100_2686_0.JPG

after using it like this for years:
http://file.walagata.com/w/bearcat/my_rig_2.jpg

I used the stick solely as a button bay. My original modded X-45 took a dive on me.. I managed to get a used one from a squaddie of mine a few years back when he upgraded to an X-52 because the stick pots died.. but since I didn't use them it wasn't an issue for me and using that I was able to salvage my now dead stick for a few more years, but the main board on the one I have now also took a dive (It wont even calibrate or even communicate with my PC except for the USB connect "ding") and since X-45s are very hard to come by now I will have to upgrade. I will use my Reward Zone points to get a new X-52 at Best Buy. I'd like to mod that one too eventually but I don't want to do it cold on my working stick based on past experience. If anyone has a X-52 that doesn't work but they still have laying around let me know. I can use it as an experiment in stick disembowelment. Even if it is just the stick, which will be all that I will be modding. I would like to take it apart to see how it is built so I can modify the one I am getting today like I did my original one.

When I modified my first one I had an old beat up one that was broken in the local Best Buy that I used to work in to use before I started taking my good one apart.. It helped me a lot in not screwing up the stick when I did mod it.

Find an ad showing the $60 price and get the difference back, they should give it back, or you can take your business elsewhere, lol.

Hi BC,
The x52 throttle is usb connection so you won't need to modify the stick at all unless you want the extra buttons. Wouldn't have thought you'd need that many flying p51's? Me A 109 driver btw.

So i have three questions:

1. Can you use the x52 throttle without the stick?

2. Can you modify the x45 to not use the stick and just rewire to pass through to USB?

3. Bearcat, Have you modified your x52 yet and how did it go?

the answer to question 1 is yes, not sure about the other 2 though.

If the stick is all you need, I have a brand new one you can have, if you still need it. I bought one recently just for the throttle. I first bought one when they originally came out and hated the stick part, so I ended up going with CH stick and pedals, but I did like the the Saitek throttle.

I have gotten so used to it over the years that when it died a short while back, I had to have another one.

Let me know. If you want it, it's yours.

The x45 worked the opposite way as you needed to have the stick plugged into the computer for the throttle to work.

Yes but I need more than are on just the throttle.. Well actually I don't.. I could use the keyboard.. but I have gotten used to having everything on a button.

1-Yes
2-I don't think so because the boards are on the stick.. but the modded X-45 worked great for a long time..
3-No not yet.. I have a non working stick being sent to me.. so I will use that as a Guinea pig. When I get Wilbur's stick I will mod that. From past experience though and considering the different way the X-52 is wired from the X-45 (On the X-45 you had that big serial cable screwing into the throttle from the stick & the usb boards were on the stick so if you wanted to use the stick you had to use both..

Excellent Wilbur.. THANK YOU!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif check your PMs..

f I were just getting a stick I would consider the pro.. but for what I need the X-52 is perfect. It is certainly different from the X-45 in feel and function. I like the buttons on the wheels.. on my X-45 I had that rocker arm set as a banded switch and had my flaps assigned to it.. in the X-52 I have the buttons on each wheel assigned to flaps.. the thumb is lower the index is raise..

The rudder pot was only a 45 degree so I fitted a 270 with a big knob.
