From what I've heard people either love it or hate it. In anticipation for Assassin's Creed II, Assassin's Creed: Bloodlines and Assassin's Creed: Discovery, I bought Assassin's Creed: Alta´r's Chronicles.

I just arrived at the Templar Hospital, where I need to go find Roland Napune, after the sewers.. so maybe I'm being a bit judgmental and should I finish the game first. Nevertheless..

It seems to me like Corey May did a vast portion of the writing, as the recognizable Assassin's Creed format is in there. But something feel just like gone wrong. I like a different take on things, but this is just extreme.

But the question is:

It seems to me like Assassin's Creed is slightly walking off the road in terms of continuity and character perseverance. Is this done with a proper purpose or just bad QA?

Ps. They should have give Tamir a last name. Like seriously. I was confused the whole time, even when I saw a fat white guy who had oil.

Anybody who knows may answer.
I enjoy the story of AC:AC, let that be known.
Alta´r seems not to be Alta´r, as his Syrian accent is gone. Plus he's too willing, too not-free-thinkish.

And what's up with the level design? The controls are alright, but the level design just lacks foresight at times.

Yeah, I've never played it myself. But it does look kinda sucky.
Which is unusual for Ubisoft. (Gameloft in this case...)

Is there a particular reason?
Or do you not have either a DS or iPhone? (which explains the reason)

In my opinion, screenshots from iPhone games always look crappy. (with exception of Ravensword - which just looks magnificent on both screenshots viewed on PC and iPhone)

Ravensword

Imagine AC looking like this on a mobile. Yum.

Anyway, the game is pretty awkward at times but enjoyable!
It's a tad too much Prince of Persia - maybe a bit too much puzzles - but I like it. It's a pretty solid title considering Ubisoft's attempt at Splinter Cell:

What I do hate of the game is that they have a bad level designer! The fighting is too easy and the platforming too hard. It's not that the controls suck because you can easily move yourself around but the jumps aren't that well thought out, which causes me to always die falling from a ledge.

It's the same either on DS or iPhone.

What did you think of the story?
And didn't you feel like some plot holes were in there?

I'm at the last stage right now..

I played it like Feb 2008 so my memory is hazy.

But I have a beef with Ninja Templar (whose name escapes me and who seemed to have an identical character model to Harash... or is Harash and Altair is dumb as a brick and can't remember who's tried to kill him recently) and the dialogue...

Alta´r seems not to be Alta´r, as his Syrian accent is gone.

Wait...When did he ever have a Syrian accent?

In the proper console game, he seems to have at least a BIT of a Syrian accent... right? Some of his words anyway.

If you play Alta´r's Chronicles you'll know what I mean. That voice is just horrible. And it switches tone as well, at the randomest times.

Okay, so gameplay basically isn't that great. Platforming sucks (Damn that ****ing templar dock level - there's some bugs in there), fighting is meh but they should've used quick time events better.

And the ending. **** me silly. I've invested 6 - 7 hours in this game and I get this ending? What the hell? The ending wasn't even 20 seconds. Barely maybe. What the?

Save yourself the hassle of playing by watching here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WhdB388op1Q

So Alta´r finds himself on a burning, broken down ship and Adha is taken away by the nasty templars. What does Alta´r do? HE JUMPS IN THE ****ING WATER.

Let me say that again.

ALTAIR
JUMPS
IN
THE
EFFFING
WATER

And then he climbs out at shore, indicating he SWAMto shore.
Let me say that again

ALTA¤R
SWAM
TO
THE
EFFFFFFFFFING
SHORE

Now there's a bloody continuity error for you. As most of you know:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IiTwbdzb-rg

Alta´r Ibn-La Ahad cannot swim because in 1191 no one could swim. That's what the developer says, at least. In Assassin's Creed I Alta´r is unable to swim, yet in Alta´r's Chronicles (which is a PREQUEL to the first game, PREQUEL ladies and gentlemen) Alta´r JUMPS in the ****ing water and swims to bloody shore.

Now there's a good bull**** story for ya.
Worst ending ever, totally ruined the entire experience for me.
BESIDES the fact that I still don't know if Adha will have Alta´r's babies.

I'm with Kaxen6 now.
The story is pretty doable, but the rest is just.. *sigh*.

the game wasn't made by ubisoft, it was made by gameloft. Ubisoft only published it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif. Also altair's chronicles is considered non canon. eg. how can tamir die twice http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Never beat it, couldn't stand it past the sewers.

Can't wait for the PSP game next week though!

I've spoken directly to the developers from Gameloft. Indeed they developed and distributed the NDS version as well, but didn't anybody do a proper QA check?

I went to the store and actually checked the NDS version, only to find it has better controls, but everything else remains the same.

How can the story be non-canon if Ubisoft Montreal lets Gameloft say it's the prequel to Assassin's Creed I?

How can Tamir die twice?
That's what I was thinking. I did some research into it and although both men are called Tamir and live in Damascus, we are speaking of two entirely different people here.

o Tamir in ACI is brownskinned, tall, slim and a Black Market Merchant.
o Tamir in AC:AC is whiteskinned, small, fat and is presumably an Oil Merhant.

So Tamir didn't die twice, there are simply two men named Tamir.

How can Alta´r jump in the water and swim to shore when 2 levels ago I died hitting the water?

I'm still not over that.

EDIT: Okay, so I've finished it and it's a good game, good for the iPod and DS. I'll give it a 3/5.
But there's one bit I really don't like: the bit where Adha gets taken away on the ship. I mean, I wanna know what happens to her! And I wanna know the Aftermath of the plot. And as for the bit where Altair jumps in the water... Are you sure he actually did jump in the water? He might've just jumped on a plank of wood or something...

I agree, on both points.

We never see Alta´r actually in the water.
But he climbs up the pier, and you usually do tthat from the water.
And he jumps off a boat, and climbs up the pier. Which means it's either a very high pier or Alta´r swam.

Maybe Al-Mualim stripped Alta´r of his ability to swim! I mean, he did strip him of all his other abilities! (Except Alta´r never learnt to swim again...) XD
