View Full Version : King Kong...Ace in a day?

Wow, what a film. I looked at my watch at one point during the film thinking it must be around 1:30 only to find it was 2:45. And who here didn't wish he'd done 5 of the pesky things instead of just 3? Dodgy initial FM on the planes but maybe that was homage to the original film, after that things were great!

Creepy insects though. Jeez. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/blink.gif

Yeah, but he did not do as well as Yeager since he didn't survive that day.

Great movie.

Already he's been compared to Yeager. I'm so proud.

Go ape.

I was voting for the demi-tyrannosaurs, myself.

Sorry to disagree. Thought it dragged a lot. Would not recommend it. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

I still can't figure out how .30 cal lewis guns would kill a 20 foot ape.

BTW, the babe was hot. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Wouldn't recommed it?! Jeez... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/51.gif

It's a great movie, even with the 3 toilet breaks. Biplane scene was my fave http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif And the T-Rex fighting http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Too true http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif

And yep, Naomi Watts was hot http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

By the way, I wonder if shooting down an ape that weighs over a tonne would account for 5 or more kills? Ace in a day http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Saw it today myself.... I thought it was great..... the TRex scene was really stretched out.. but never a dull moment. A definite keeper.

I took the boys (10 and 5) to see it the other night. I know some of you are thinking "You took a little kid to see it??" http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif

Yep and boy, did he love it! Amazingly only took one potty break and he was excited through the whole movie. Well...most of it. about 30 mins in he asked sotto voice "Daddy, isn't this movie about King Kong?" The only part that bothered him at all was when they met the natives. No nightmares; he loves scary, exciting movies. Best part for him: Dinosaurs! (the biplane scene came in a close second. He also casually mentioned that they should have used Focke-Wulfs!) http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

Best part for me: After the movie him jumping around saying "I loved that movie!" As for the older boy, I think he's been around me too long. His first comment after it was over was "Those natives looked a lot like Orcs from Lord of the Rings." He also liked the V-Rex fight.

All around, I think the movie was well worth the price of admission. It was long, but it didn't seem very long while watching it.

It was a beautiful film, actually. I don't care about the lead actress, she wasn't good at her job. Peter should have fired her first day.

The final plane scene was incredible though. And Kong only destroyed 3 planes I thought? Those planes (sorry pilots) deserved what they got. Backstabbing sons of b!tches. What were those planes anyway? They're not SBC-3 Helldivers. SBC-3's have retractable gear. What version of the Helldiver are they?

Ask James Dietz, the lucky b@stard got to fly one of 'em http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_redface.gif

Apes aren't made of Deltawood. Therefore they are vulnerable to anything.

Anyway, I solved our plane mystery. It seems that the "Helldivers" in question come from a long line of aircraft designated "Helldiver." Not all of which are dive bombers. Our culprit is of the O2C family, the O2C-1, to be specific. (By army designation: F8C-5)

Interesting King Kong Fact(tm):

One of the guys who made King Kong, Merian C. Cooper, was also one hell of an aviator.

He, along with other Americans, most notably Cedric Fauntleroy, volunteered and helped establish the Kosciuszko Squadron in 1919. The name Kosciuszko was chosen because it embodied the spirit of Polish-American fraternity, mostly because Kosciuszko was one of the heroes of the American Revolution. Cooper decided to go back to those roots and return the favor in Poland's fight for independence against Russia in the Polish-Russian war of 1919-1921. As a member of the American Volunteers, he flew combat missions against the Russians until he was shot down July 26, 1920. He was captured by the Russians, however he escaped towards the end of the war to Latvia. Polish commander-in-chief Jozef Pilsudski decorated Cooper with Poland's highest military honor, the Virtuti Militari.

While Colonel Cooper served as Chennault's chief-of-staff in WWII, the squadron he helped create two decades earlier eventually became the highest scoring squadron of the Battle of Britain.

Pubes is life, the rest is just details.

Those planes were the top secret "Apedivers".

It never made it into production, because of a shortage of very large apes.

right.... and you dive on apes with 7.62mm MG's?
