I dont know about you guys but I am SICK AND TIRED of the IL2 loading screen. Is there a way where I can change the wallpaper of the loading screen to something else? And is there also a way where I can replace the loading music with one of my own? I cant find any of the files that have to do with the default background and music, so its hard to find out what to modify.

Now sit down, straight back, and cross your legs..
Arms down at your sides and hands at your knees like this..
Repeat after me....
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

See !! you feel better already.
Now ask yourself..
"Compared to the game content.. IS the startup screen that important ?"

The primary load screen can only be changed using unofficial mods to the sim that are not actively promoted on this site, but it can be done. As for the music.. yes you can alter the music file, you can also alter the secondary background image as in:

http://star.walagata.com/w/bearcat/splash2-0.jpg

by going to:

C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946\Missions

and looking for a background.tga file. Pick any image you want to use.. use Photoshop, Paint Shop or some other kind of image editing software to convert the image you chose to a 768k 512x512 tga file. Rename the one in your folder that says background to oldbackgroud or whatever.... and then take the 512x512 tga file you just created , rename that background and drop it into the missions folder. It should show up just like in the screenshot above. You can use any image whatsoever.. as long as it is a 512x512 tga and it has the name background. AS for creating new music files read this tutorial @ M4T (http://mission4today.com/index.php?name=Knowledge_Base&op=show&kid=426).

The loading screen just takes a few seconds so in my modest, very, very, very modest opinion it isn't such a big deal...
And you can switch off the music somewhere in the conf.ini as far as I can remember.

And I think that K-Freddie's yoga lesson will help a lot. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Some may call me weird, but I don't think game devs should waste precious resources on reinventing the user interface. Best UI I saw in a game was in Su-27 1.x. Standard windows app, no guessing what the UI elements mean, fast, stable and intuitive. Throw in a customizable background and/or splash screen and that's it.

It's a game about flying...not about reinventing the user interface elements. For example those flip switches...I can never remember if up is on or off...

I agree with you... but the above mentioned items can be done with little hassle and do not need developer input at all. As for the primary screen.. well if it is bothersome to some folks.. there are ways around it. You just have to find them on your own.

I don't have any image editing software besides MS paint. Are there any interface mods out there? I know some campaigns come with their nations splashscreen.

the loading screen isnt even onscreen for a minute, how can that be such a big cause of frustration?

Ok kool, I got Paint.net now thanks. But now how do I make it 768k 512x512? I already saved it as a TGA file.
