I usually take screenshots of interesting battles and paste them into my Pacific Fighters / IL-2 album on http://www.imagestation.com. So anyway, I was dogfighting against 8 BF-109E /F's and 8 Focke-Wulf 190s with 8 Spitfires and 8 Hawker Hurricanes.

I'm behind one BF-109 firing at him when one of my guys (this wasn't online BTW) just goes right infront of me to shoot down my target. It happened so quickly, my bullets hit his plane and he went down. FRIENDLY AIRCRAFT DESTROYED..oh yeah, and I also got the BF-109!

This isn't the first time this has happened to me. I'll be chasing an enemy when my wingmen or some friendly plane goes infront of my firing guns. What are these people, suicidal or something!?

Also, sometimes I'm chasing an enemy and my wingman is right behind me firing at the same target but hitting me instead! What *******es! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Yea, these are old issues. Very annoying when playing "one life" campaigns. After a while you learn to fly this sim a certain way when it comes to AI, and it doesn't irritate as much.

Sometimes though it can make for some funny moments.

I always have a laugh when two of them crash into each other trying to land at the same time. Seems to happen about every other mission.

Yeah that's happened to me too! The computer causes planes to land on a runway where a damaged planes remains lie. The first time I saw that, I was like "You've got to be kidding me..." http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/34.gif

This exact thing happened to me just now on a server, 7pb_dark jumps in front of me and my bullets hit him, so he bails as tho its my fault and I get -400 of course.

He was not that badly damaged he couldnt make it home Im sure.

The negative points hurt me. Even though it's just a score, you always think what would have happened if I didn't hit the guy...or rather if this idiot hadn't flown infront of me! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

With some experience behind us, I can confirm that our team-point system (sharing the earned points evenly between team members) miraculously reduces such TK incidents and KS incidents as well.

In such a case, you would have got -200 and your silly wingman sliding in front of you would have also got -200.

It is amazing, how careful team-mates become after joining this setup http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif It becomes a far less frustrating experience, and team spirit sky-rockets. If you shot down someone and head home with your 100 or 200 points to be earned at landing, your wingman will protect your back you until his last breath, since he knows that he will get a fair share of your successful landing, too.

Quite funny how a relatively small change in point system makes our small DF server almost feel like a flexible coop with your buddies http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I can't wait to try online flying sometime. I know group mates will be much smarter than the computer software. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif

I had offline misson going. Was a scramble to intercept inbound enemy. After they were all gone I gave the command to return to base, even though thats where we were. Every single last Friendly AI dove stright in to the end of the runway, no gear down, no flaps, I still wonder what was with that.

as far as strange AI behaivior goes I really don't mind to some degree. accidents killed lots of people in RL. thank god i have not seen the entire squadron go kamikaze style into the airstrip, tho. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/88.gif

Last night I was playing in an offline campaign leading a flight of 6 Cobras against 6 Doras and 4 Heinkels.

When I saw the enemy coming I had the flight spread out: two of the idiots collided with eachother doing that manuever. When I told my wingman to rejoin me after telling the other 2 planes to engage the fighters the idiot said, "Roger, rejoining"...and then dove straight down 2000m!!! into the ground. We hadn't even been spotted by the Germans yet. I figured the gods were against me so I made one pass on the bombers and ran for home while I still could.

Waht the heck is up with these guys? I routinely have IL2 flights fly straight into hillsides and fighters plow into the ground on landing. Didn't anyone do any terrain following routines while coding the game?

Hehe, I had a campaign once where I had to protect 3 German Me323's (I think they are 323, the big massive tranports)

Yet every time I got to a certain point, 2 of the 323 flew into each other, EVERY time I played it. (I did it about 5 times I think)

I had to give up the campaign and 53 sorties because of that idiot! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Same here the AI dont listen... I tell them to go home and they say "rgr returning to base"
but yet they still fly with me.

Pretty much having the same problem... Im on like mission 80 of the leningrad campaign and on everystart one of my FW's crashed into a tree....

while they still dive right into the ground sometimes, i think it depends also on the plane used. Cobras in my VVS fighters project love to kill themselves at the airbase, though they will usually make it back if i order them to return to base. If i order them to loiter here over the base, they will dive right into the ground within 30 seconds.

however, when flying F4Fs in bird brains cactus dairies cmpn, i can land and my flight will make a low pass right alongside the runway before coming around to land, but then a fourth of them will crash on approach. This really does need some attention. Evan MS cfs2 didnt do that, though they did collide in every misn.

On my VVS fighters pt2 thread a few pages back, i put a couple of screenshots of an FW sneaking up on me that i didnt even know was there until i played the track back. They also show my ace skilled wingman pulling into him from underneath and gunning him with a quick burst taht flamed him without me ordering it. I only ordered him to cover me. The patch did help the combat effectiveness, but the landing and navigation is still pretty pathetic.

Ironically ehough, in one mission I'm building I'm TRYING to get them to crash into the ground but they won't!

I believe the AI is, umm, kinda favoring thier feminine side; they are totally contrary and have serious sado-masochistic tendancies (God I hope none of the chicks on here see this....)

There was a way to do this but i think i forgot... try giving them zero fuel, airstart and put them on a groundattack.

i think the kamikaze procedure is to make thier last WP a ground attack one.

Idiot wingman syndrome just happened to me.

Made a little mission on FMB with 2 Bf108 G6's off on a little patrol meeting two jugs on the new Normandy map. Despite me making the mission and knowing just about where'd they be, they somehow managed to jump me (must be a bug http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif) and after a little furball managed to shoot one down. Now, we all got a tad mixed up all over the place and god only knows where the wingman is even though i gave him orders to watch my @ss. Despite this i chase the other one and after a bit manage to get on the jug's six, get a lovely shot opportunity and press the trigger. Nothing. A tad over fond of the trigger i still seem to be. Go 'Sh*te' and make a break for home, calling for the wingman in all languages and facilities available on comms. Nowt. now the american flyboy's after my blood. Try to outrun him and nearly burn out my engine in the attempt, but he's with me all the way back, and there's my wingman asking for permission to land. "help!" i ask, shooting past him with america's best chewing gum and my butt. no.2 ignores me and calmly lands and probably has a nice cup of shnapps, and, who knows, maybe a cigar, while looking at dirty pictures of Marlene Dietrich. meanwhile i am 10 minuites in getting that bugger to lose interest and go home, where he too, probably enjoys a whiskey, cigar and equally eyebrow raising Scarlett O'Hara piccies. You can imagine the scene when i landed. Number two will need a blender and a straw to eat tonight's ersatz fare.
