Okay, Search isnt working so I just made a whole new topic. I need help, because i looked around the site and i didnt find any FAQs. I was wondering if EVERY key in the game is needed, and what does what. Thank in advance.

there is a keymap in the 'controls' section of the game...start PF then click 'controls'

you need to map a key to the 'wheel chocks' if you want to fly off of carriers.

you will need to map a key for manual landing gear for those planes that required manual raising and lowering of the gear...F4 wildcat for one. It will also help you lower gear in other types if you get shot up and the auto gear control fails.

There are many other features that need to be keymapped - just set it up the way uou like it and if you get confused or whatever there is a button to 'reset default' controls.

Hi,
two good places to start,
Airwarfare (http://www.airwarfare.com/tech/tech_pages.htm)
and Sturmovik essentials (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/ubb.x?a=tpc&s=400102&f=23110283&m=51910959)
There is a FAQ at the Airwarfare site.
There is a steep learning curve with this sim, but well worth the effort.

Which version of the game?

If 1946, I'll post a valuable link.

Otherwise, check my signature. Also, here are some ideas for user defined controls (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/26310365/m/9901017394). And if you haven't already, you'll want to correctly patch up your game (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/23110283/m/4721047273).

If you have Pacific Fighters or Forgotten Battles or IL-2 1946 then my newest campaign is just what you are looking for. The campaign shows you how to takeoff and land from grass airstrips, fleet aircraft carriers and escort carriers.

Go here for the campaign. Complete instructions on what to do are in the readme file.

hi all. brand new newbie to this. just purchased "the ultimate flight collection". several questions. 1. do i treat "pf" as a stand alone? 2.having spend most all my budget on upgrades for my pc, i bought a saitek 220 pro joystick. will this work for awhile? 3. what should i download on the order of patches in what order? being 59 years old, almost 60, would it help[ me to go through the flight 1st? no more questions for a little while. thanks to all of you for your help

smokestack,

Yes, you'll have to treat Pacific Fighters as standalone (unless you have Forgotten Battles and Aces Expansion Pack installed on your computer already). The Ultimate Flight Collection -- $20 at WalMart -- is a discombobulated collection of old versions. But you get to try out Pacific Fighters, the original version of IL-2 Sturmovik (which can't be merged to Pacific Fighters in any way) and LOMAC for just a few greenbacks.

See the patching guide I linked previously. It has a section for the patches for standalone Pacific Fighters -- five total, running from version 3.03 to v4.04. It also has a section for the original IL-2 Sturmovik game; the patch numbers you want are v1.1, 1.2, and an optional 1.2ov (which must be installed over 1.2 to work properly).

I can't comment on the stick because I don't know its features, but honestly any joystick is better than no joystick.

If the UFC content works and you enjoy the game, consider getting IL-2 Sturmovik: 1946 which has the entire collection for just $30. Now that's truly "Ultimate"! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

ok, so let me see if i can get this straight. if i can find the original "IL-2 sturmovik:1946", then it will be much better than what i have now. as "bearcat99" suggested, there's a circuit city close buy, so, my best bet is to scrap what i have and install thew original 1946: then go from there, right? thx to all

IL-2 1946 includes EVERYTHING except the latest free patch. That patch has several incredible maps and tweaks to the flight models of aircraft.

It's not the "original" IL-2 Sturmovik:1946, it's the NEW IL-2 Sturmovik:1946. What you have now is the original IL-2 Sturmovik. What these guys are recommending is a new version.

Both the patches? I'm sure one of those was the 4.08m update patch, but what was the other one?

As for "only the cockpit view", what other views do you need? Are you trying to switch to the no cockpit view, or to external views?

Some people are having problems getting the campaign to run. When installing the campaign, please do the following:

A) Unzip the downloaded file.
B) The unzipped file will have 7 objects in it.
...1) Thumbs (this is for the jpeg file - ignore it)
...2) Straight From the Farm Briefings - text file (for those without MS Word)
...3) Straight From the Farm Briefings - Word version
...4) readme file - read this before installing!
...5) Farm - a jpeg file - ignore this
...6) Straight_From_the_Farm folder
...7) Practice folder

C) Read the readme file
D) Print the briefings using either the Word or text file.
E) Copy or move the Practice folder to your Missions/Single/UN folder
F) Copy or move the Straight_From_the_Farm folder and its contents to your Missions/Campaign/UN folder.

When installed correctly, the campaign folder structure will look like this:

Missions
--- Campaign
------ UN
--------- Straight_From_The_Farm

you only needed the one patch 4.08.. 4.071 was an interim beta but no problems, 4.08 would have over written it.

This may help you with the stick set up for views etc

http://airwarfare.com/tech/sticks.htm

Welcome to the forums BTW http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

there is a printable card for the controls in the game folder btw the path should be

C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\IL-2 Sturmovik 1946

then look for the controls PDF (second page)

F2 is external etc F1 cockpit ctrl F1 will centre the gun sight etc

There was the 4.071 beta patch and 4.08. You can skip 4.071 without problems but it wont hurt if you've put it in.

For the views issue, turn off the "No External Views" and "Cockpit Always On" difficulty settings. If you want padlock to work, also turn off the "No Padlock" setting.
