...I was searching for some night fighter material on eBay and found this:
We were saddened to learn that Wolfgang Falck passed away at the age of 96 on March 13, 2007. He was a chilvarous man, who was quoted as saying "I firmly believe that we pilots from both sides were convinced that when the war was over we would treat each other again as cavaliers and gentlemen.".

Hauptmann Falck was Gruppenkommandeur of the I./ZG1 from December '39 till June '40 where he achieved 7 daylight victories flying Bf-110's. He was then appointed as Geschwaderkommodore of the NJG 1, the first dedicated nightfighter unit. In most senses was the father of the german nightfighter force.

/S Hauptmann Falck, RIP

I agree Bearcat, the guys that actually flew and fought seem to be much more interested in "forgive and forget" while far to many of us virtual pilots are busy spewing vitriol and recriminations, usually over some minor detail.

Sorry to sound callous, but this is not sad news. The death of an old person who has lived a fulfilling life is not be mourned. I salute him and his accomplishments. The death of the young is sad.

Talking about life and death cycle of human beings, you could be right... but as far as aviation is concerned, passing away of old veterans with their stories, is always a sad news IMHO. Fortunately many of the had written their memoirs for the generations to come.
