I am a big fan of the series and I was wondering about the saying "nothing is true, everything is permitted", how can the assassins apply this? If nothing is true and everything is permitted, then why are they standing up to greed and criminal acts? Can anyone clarify what this saying means?

It really means that at any given time, your world can be turned upside down by the revelation that everything you have known up to this point has been a lie fed to you by knowledge you were permitted to know.
