Quick Time, spyware? Spyware that Adaware can remove, or SpywareBlaster?

Spysweeper found nothing associated with QuickTime, which doesn't make me think that altstiff is necessarily wrong.

Yeah but, some anti spyware programs contain spyware / adware in themselves. You have to be careful.

Hijack This only targets Browser hijackers but it's very good at that if you know what you are doing. I say that because it also displays legitimate entries after a scan. I never got on with Spybot S&D until I got hold of the new version which tackles the DSO exploit bug. These and Adaware are pretty good at what they do, but Norton Internet Security and Zone Alarm Security Suite are real resource hogs. They slow your machine down big time. I was a fan of Spy Sweeper until I found out how much it slows your machine down. It's very good at its job but you pay for it in system performance.

The rest I can't really comment on as I've never tried them.

I've found that Pest Patrol is pretty good as regards Adware, Spyware and Trojans etc. They want money for that one but combined with the new Spybot, AVG Antivirus and Registry Mechanic (another one that wants money) it's kept my machine pretty clean with minimal resource usage.

Other users may have different experiences but that's just what works for me.

Be suspicious of free spyware removal programs.

I use a combination of Pest Patrol, HijackThis and CWShredder to clear my customers machines of junk.

And the Apple quicktime player is harmless.
