I think what this game really needs is a dirt strip. Not like the current Airstrips we have, which are raised above the ground, but just a sort of texture we can place on top of the current ground. It has unlimited applications and would do wonders for the game http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif

Hey Ranger they did try what you suggest. If you go to updates screenshots there is somewhere a picture of a dirt runway which has the title "test runway". Possibly something didn't work so they came with the test runways that we have now,to bad http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
It would be really great!

That could be very useful to add some new airstrips, that could help us to fix the airfields on the Pearl Harbor map. Some airfields are just not historicly correct! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/1072.gif

How was this done? Anybody?

This photo was photoshopped. It looks like someone used the trees to create the shape of the runways and taxiways, and then took a screenshot and edited it in photoshop. Look at where the tops of the trees are color changed as well as the ground.

Judging by the text though, it appears that the photoshopping wasn't meant to deceive you into thinking that the runways looked that way in the game, but rather to illustrate where they are because in game there are only trees to show you where they are. A clever idea.

So, whats wrong with a 20" curb at the edge of the runway?

oh, yeah....

I don't know about dirt runways, but I'm pretty sure there are "invisible" ones that can be placed on the maps.

The Kurland map has some "runways" placed on roads which you can select to take off/land on, for example.

What we need more HotelBushranger is a P40N. But I would take a nice packed dirt runway too.

Amen to that! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/agreepost.gif

You already have a P40N the E climbs like a P40N ... a couple of climb tests will prove it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

What is really needed is an E that performs like an E

Bollocks to that! The N was vastly different from the E

For the better of course http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

It's photoshoped and a good work btw.
But there is something that drive me creazy and i see that a lot around it's the way they place trees very close to runways... if one day you fly in RL you will see why is important to make them farther away .. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

hy!

yes, it's photoshopped (the brown color) to show
where the planes can taxi and it was done with "static ships" runway nā?4...and how i know?...because i did this base some time ago for my squad for a mission on the kurland map where we could start on the parking instead of the runwayhttp://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif...and yes,we need some "dirty runways" like the runway nā?4
http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gif good idea!

A dirt strip texture is an interesting idea Bushie and nice work Pepper.

Texture like this would be very good in many areas infact.
---------------------------------------------

For example one straight dirt-road strip and one curved 90 degrees, is all that is needed to make own roads for own villages or clusters of buildings on desireable places of interest.

With road textures the populated area look more realistic if there is a road between the houses.
The road textures also can connect a village to a main road-net.

Several road textures can be placed alongside eachother and be placed under buildings in need oh paved ground around it.

Even different textures of big and small grassfields in different colors may improve the suroundings of an airbase or village or town.

I feel there are many more uses for flat textures like this.
I will contemplate the matter and see what I can dream up.

Good initiative http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

HotelBushranger ... bollocks you say are they the Bollocks on an Argentine ant http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I am aware of the diff between the N and E.
I am also aware of the FB in game perf that the E is delivering. the P40E in IL2FB climbs almost exactely at the P40N rate.

Do some climb tests yourself and see.
(Been beta testing fB since 2002)

Send me a PM with your Email if you want to see the test charts
