I just bought this game for my new PS2. It's a blast. Very short learning curve and superb gameplay. If you wanna have real fun, get a playstation. you won't look back.

The problem with instantly playable games, is that they soon lose their challenge.
Unless like FB you can adjust the realism settings.
And when the easier settings get boring, you can crank up the realism for a proper challenge.

I'm having just as much fun trying to land my battle damaged 109 as I am in the middle of a dogfight.

I can't see Combat Ace 4 having anywhere near as many realism settings as FB. Can you?

Do you want it because of the "what if" scenario ? Because if you're looking for a good mecha series, Front Mission 4 is out now for the PS2 and, IMO, gameplay is better than ROR, as far as turn-based strategy games go. ROR has a unique storyline though, I'll give it that.

Console games will never be able to reproduce the aspects of reality that a modern PC can. I don't care what chip they have. I'm not saying that they aren't fun, just not a good simulation.

Tsisqua,
You should give a try to Grand Theft Auto or Driver. It rocks! A friend of mine went on vacation and left me his PS2.Man,didn't touched the PC for 2 weeks http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Kozhedub: In combat potential, the Yak-3, La-7 and La-9 fighters were indisputably superior to the Bf-109s and Fw-190s. But, as they say, no matter how good the violin may be, much depends on the violinist. I always felt respect for an enemy pilot whose plane I failed to down.

Z-

GTA series or Driver are not simulations of driving a car...they are games. Fun games, but they do not include the level of relaism he would like to see. That's the whole reason he (and I) play "sims" (not the Bloody Sims, although I might actually play the Sims if it were the Bloody Sims) on home PCs instead of games on a console.

My roomate has a good console and it is fun, but it is hardly the same thing as a sim on a PC.

Also, games like True Crime and GTA series are available for PC. If you buy a gamepad control...what's the difference except you're not sitting on the couch while you play, and the PC monitor gives a better picture?

I have a gamer friend who introduced me to both the PS2 and that game. I just happen to know that I like it. I like the graphics, goofy English, the storyline and the tense gameplay. Sometimes I wish you could cut the animations short, although it's not so bad when you're with a friend. Come to think of it I probably would get bored of the game when playing it alone after playing it through once.

I thought of getting a PS2 so that I could have some games with my wife, but there are other better activities anyway. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

the above two quotes are misguided opinions - in other words, wrong.

gameplay is king. not realism, not difficulty, not graphics. our powers of imagination beats any eye-candy when it comes to having fun with a game. remember asteroids on atari? imagination is the most powerful simulation engine.

You say he has a misguided opinion and is wrong, and then tell me that your opinion, to quote:

"gameplay is king. not realism, not difficulty, not graphics"

is fact!

That is your opinion. To you, gameplay is King, and realism doesn't matter. To you.

Just because you feel that the criteria you listed is "best" doesn't make it what other people want, or even makes you right.

Telling folks what their opinion should be is a poor way to win an argument! And using your own personal opinion as "proof" that someone else's opinion is wrong proves nothing.

Er, no one edited it. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-happy.gif I like it for what it is, I had a PS2 and AC4 before my PC. After I kicked it's behind through all difficulties and got every plane unlocked, with every paint scheme, I pretty much put it down. But I've been playing IL2 since it came out, and for me, there's no comparision. I'll still buy AC5, but I'm not going to stop IL2. IIRC, that was Amanda_Hugnkiss. Something about doors and backsides, I believe. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-very-happy.gif I found it rather rude. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif I don't think anybody is going to give up IL2 for AC4 or AC5. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/35.gif Console games can be fun, but they don't beat the immersion and complexity of the PC. My PS2 mostly collects dust nowadays. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Ah, my mistake

You could look at it as rude, I suppose, but in a thread like this, you have to allow for a certain amount of blunt answers and replies. I mean, this was started just to cause a commotion- Kid can't be serious.

I didn't see it as rude, I saw it as "Oh, you're leaving? Good for you, have fun, bye, you don't fool me" http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I was just about to reply to that particular post. I really don't like anyone telling me that my opinion is wrong. The whole point of an opinion is that it is a personal expression.
So they can be misguided, but never wrong.

In all seriousness, though. Good gameplay is, I agree, a necessity. It cannot, however, make up for a lack of realism or outdated graphics. Suspension of disbelief requires all three.
