View Full Version : OT €" Chalk one up for the ladies€¦

My lovely wife devotes as much energy and enthusiasm to her €œhobby€ of €œsaleing,€ as in garage sales, as I devote to my flight simulations. My interest and understanding of her €œsport€ is about the same as hers toward mine. We have her €œYou on that computer again? What can you possibly be doing there for so long?€ in perfect counterpoint with my €œWhere are we going to put all this stuff? Don€t we have enough junk already?

Well gentlemen, pay attention to the lady, because she is paying more attention to you than you think. I got a cell phone call while I was standing on the apron at the Langley AFB air show this Saturday. I could barely hear the phone ring, let alone make out what she was saying as a couple of F-15s were at that moment demonstrating how loud their afterburners were. Over the noise I make out something like €œestate sale€ then €œAVG€ and a little later €œP-40 are you interested?€

I say, €œP-40 sounds interesting.€

When I got home, sitting on my desk is a €œHeart of the Tiger€ poster, a €œThe Survivor€¦ #48€ poster of Ollig Crawford€s P-40N in AVG colors with Ollig€s, €œTex€ Hill, Joe Roabert, Charlie Mott, P.J. Green, Ed Rector and Bob Layher€s signatures. Under the posters is a copy of €œThe American Fighter €" From 1917 to the Present€ - all 480 pages of photos, specs, tables and drawings. This in addition to three other aviation books, none of which were in my collection.

€œDo you like any of those things?€

€œYes Dear. You did really well.€

I can really go with this tale. My wife's pretty accepting of my hobbies - although the motorcycling's the only one she gets any enjoyment out of. "It's because we're sharing it" she says, in one of those little gambits that are sure to have you decorating the kitchen before you even know it http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I respond by not spoiling her fun with 'le shopping' - by not going with her and ripping into the pointlessness of buying another new dress or another bag. It's a little battle for moral superiority that we really enjoy.

Imagine my pleasure & chagrin when she walked in from another expedition and handed me a soft leather flying-helmet - the very model used in the Sturmovik artwork - with the condition that I should never ever answer the door wearing it! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Her best friend was there too - as witness to the sheer magnanimity of the gesture - and I have the sinking feeling I'll be building a new wardrobe this year! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

That's a real treasure trove Lee - just wonderful - but I wonder what the real price will be? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/halo.gif

In return, you must give up your gaming room/space, throw away the PC, so she could put all of her stuff in it http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

That's how women communicate you know http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_rolleyes.gif http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/35.gif

Even though I€m retired, I still drive her to work every morning.

My gaming computer is currently in a room we both use as an office. And you€re right; she is having me move all my stuff out. Out into my own den.

Communications is important. We live in the Washington DC area, which has a large retired military population. These things were from the estate of Charlie Mott, a flight leader in the Panda Bears. Be sure I€ll be giving her kinds items to look for when she comes across another opportunity like this one. There was a stack of €œofficial€ photographs she ignored at first and then reconsidered. But by then someone else had scoffed them up.

My wife does the same thing from time to time, not always is she dead on right but its more the thought that counts right?
