I just read freakvollder's post where he summerises his tactics in the BF-109 and got some good feedback. I thought do the same though mine will prbably require less construction and more critisism. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif I'm doing this becasue I need help, as oppose to helping others. :P

So I'm flying around, relaxing with my P-38 friends, you know... chilling in over Okinowa and I spot a formation of enemy planes... So I flaw it, pedal to the metal, power 100% and PP 100% rads closed, everything but wep. So we merge wirth the enemy but since I'm against AI (Vertran or Ace) I don't bother shooting in the head on cos... Well, give it a go you'll see.

By now I'm doing about 320mph and I keep flying in a straight line, climing slightly but maintaining a speed of no less that 300mph. Then once I'm far enough away that I'm at risk of loosing sight of the enemy I turn around, gently keeping them in sight. Speed no less than 250mph, the 38 bleeds off quite allo of speed whilst turning. Now I'm facing them and slightly high, no more than 1000m drop the PP to 95% and charge straight at them, straight through the formation of planes picking off enemy fighters then straight out the other side. Rinse and repeat.

Should someone get behind me it's PP to 95% and dive, dive, dive. Swiftly followed by whiping the sweat from my forhead and heading home.

Note: Those engine settings can be kept up for about 10mins before over heat. By then I've usualy scored 2-3 kills and I can throttle down to about 80 and chose to engage or disengage. alternativly I can keep the settings as they are and sit it out, it takes a long time to cook your engines in the 38 and I'd say you've got about 10 more mins before they start to die on you...

So, yeah... wow I kind of enjoyed that http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Thoughts?

You mean you have never encountered the dreaded 'dives-like-a-P47' AI Zeke yet? You know, the one that keeps up with you no matter how fast you go?

You will... http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/winky.gif

As sillius puts it, there's no use in trying to apply RL-tactics against AI-planes.

What WILL work, however, is a flat or rolling-scissors.
Most of the time, the AI-attacker can be fooled, by barrel-rolling into him.

Make sure you have the energy and the angles/ sec to not end as deflection-shot-bait http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

You'll figure out a way, I'm quite sure about that http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_cool.gif

<BLOCKQUOTE class="ip-ubbcode-quote"><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-title">quote:</div><div class="ip-ubbcode-quote-content">Originally posted Joe Foss USMC, (Congressional Medal of Honor):

Q. What was your impression of the P-38's?

A. The P-38 is really a good plane as an interceptor, above 20,000 feet. If you get notice that a bogey is coming in, and don't have much time, give it to the P-38's; they can really get up there. If it's above 20,000 feet they make their runs, go on out far enough to make a turn, and come back for another run, When the P-38's were sparring around with me, they would buzz way down below me, take a look, then go up through a hole in the clouds, take a short look around and come back down. They ran all around the sky while I was doing my best just to stay where I was.

Q. Was any attempt made to use them at the limit of their range?

A. They went clear up to Bougainville. They sent P-38's to fly cover on B-17's and on B-24's. There would be Zeros above them and below them would be more Zeros, float bi-planes and float Zeros, but their orders were to stay in formation with the bombers. If any of the enemy fighters made an attack, they'd just pull up, give a short burst, and the enemy fighter would pull right back up out of range. When they failed to do this one day, three of them were shot down. They went down below 20,000 feet to get some "easy meat", (these float bi-planes that can turn on a dime) - went down and tried to dogfight - that was the end of three P-38's

Nice quot read it before but it's good to read it again! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif Ah your right about the diving, it doesn't work all the time, but sometimes it does honest, even against AI. Prehaps I'll try rolling instead.
