I'd like to fix this myself if I can. If not I hope someone else can help or send me in the right direction. (note: "to hell" is the wrong direction! http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_razz.gif)

Ever notice how high the C3 sits above the water? Doesn't it look strange towering over everything else? Especially if the ship is supposed to be full!

Note the red line. That's where about it should sit if I'm not mistaken. In case you're wondering that leaves the lowest spot about 6m (19.7ft) above the waterline. Compare that with the original: a whopping 20-21m (68.9ft) above the waterline!

Here's a "before and after" of what I suggest. I hope there is a way to accomplish this:

The fixed version is at the bottom. I got rid of the edited picture.

Have you considered the possiblility that the game accounts for ships laden or empty [riding in ballast]? It has been a very long time since I have played SH3 unmodded. I got into mods almost immediately. I cannot say with any certainty if the stock game accounts for this, but at least some mods do. Generally, ships in convoy sailing from the UK to their pickup ports in North America will be "empty" whereas on their return trip they will be weighed down with cargo. This actually makes some vessels harder to sink. Oil tankers in ballast carry no explosive cargo so they take more torpedoes to sink than does a fat tanker carrying a load of aviation fuel. The chances for a critical detonation are much higher for a tanker laden with oil.

If you haven't already, I would make a note of the circumstances under which you notice ships that seem to float too high. Is it with C3 types only that you notice this or different vessels? Are these headed to the UK or to North America? Some convoys sailing from the UK are obviously supply convoys sailing to the Med.

The ship does not have any cargo http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

I must be having a "senior's moment" even though I am only 48. I'm scratching my head and wondering why you are winking at me. Please enlighten this dunderhead if I am missing something obvious.

I've owned SH3 shortly after it hit the stores and only started using mods a few months ago. I still play the stock game occasionally because I enjoy it.

The C3 is not the only vessel I noticed that seems to ride a bit high, but it sure is the most noticeable. In the stock game it always sits this high in the water whether it's loaded or not. It would be pretty cool to see the effect of ships that are loaded and unloaded, but I've never noticed before. At least in the stock game the ships always sit at the same depth.

I've started using GWX again so I might notice the new effects if they are there. I guess I'll have to have a look and reply with what I find.

I knew there was something about the C3 that bothered me, just couldn't put my finger on it. Every time I've seen one, it seems to be this looming wall of steel that could (and should) topple over at any moment, even when encountered in the fiercest of storms.

I've never seen a "low riding" C3 myself, but maybe the difference is just too subtle for my undiscerning eye.

Why don`t you use the mod "thomson`s ships" ?

He has corrected this for all ships. Also
the speeding up, slowing down of ships has
been altered in that mod.

If you find the 'high riding' C3 bothers you, there is always a cure. A couple of torpedoes amidships tends to fix it. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Never heard of it, but it sounds interesting. Do you have a link to a download?

And finally...

Don't know if anyone noticed, but I've managed to restore the wake that was lost when I lowered the ship. Now it will ride normally again. Hope some are willing to play test and provide feedback. Also if anyone thinks other ships need to be adjusted I may be able to work on those too.

How about in the Mods section in VikingGrandad's

SH3 Gen Discuss/Useful Links & Info/Manuals, Tools, Mods, Tweaks, etc. thread

Under the "Mods/Other Mods" section with GoldenEagle8's Type VII and others?

You'd have to discuss with Tambor to get it added, but I'd say that's the place where it belongs.

Good work! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif

Did you get it stabilized?
