Hello everyone,
Just signed up and hope to be getting SH3 soon. Fathers day is coming and Im praying they get me this. Early would be even better lol. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

From reading I do have a question or two. My main concern is online play. How easy is it for someone to cheat?
I cant stand playing a game where someone mods the game enough to cheat. I come from games such as Battlefield 2 (FPS games, which I cant play anymore due to motion sickness http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif). They have a system called punk buster to stop cheaters. Doesnt always work 100% but it helps.

The simulation seems great. Ive watched the game play trailer and a few of the video tutorials and have to say Im pretty excited about it.

Anyway, I hope to make a few friends and get to play against a few of you some time in the near future.

Silver

Howdy. Welcome aboard. Although I can't speak for the multiplay, I could say the game is worth getting. I've had it for over a year now and still play regularly and am still very impressed with it. It's really one of my all-time favorites. I think many of the regulars here who have had it even longer would completely agree.

Thanks, from what I have seen it will be a great benifit to join a clan (or what ever they call them here, lol). So Ill most likely do that shortly after getting the game.

Hi and welcome to the community,

I just want to recommend thinking about upgrading the game to IuB103 its a supermod that adds to the fun, realism, and playability of SH3. It's hard to cheat in multiplay as you have to have the same mods or setup as the server to join. Our group has been using IuB for 6 months now and just upgraded to 103 and our new members always comment on how good the game is.

We run an Open Server Event Fridays at 7pm PST with a 7:30pm start. Just look for the U-boat Command server.

You will definitely enjoy this sim so have fun and good hunting!!

Regards,

WilhelmSchulz.

You can't cheat in MP. For a flotilla join the 8th Flotilla(click the link in my sig). http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

Thanks for the welcome everyone! I will be looking into each flotilla to make the best choice. I am really excited about this. The tutorials are a pain in the arse but Ive managed to get thru 2 of them so far. There a bit vague at times however.
So far so good though. =)

Hi and welcome Silverwolfsub http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/11.gif
You will find that the SH3 foruns are not like in others games here only join good people and all will help you in any thing that you need
http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/25.gifso any problem just ask.
About updats its only 1.4 oficiall and alot of mods but the best are grey wolf(what I have install),RUb1.45,IuBv103 all are good mods now you have to choise what is best for you, http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.giftry this do a clean SH3 install(1.4)and copy all the files to another place and install one of the mods if you like it keep (try all 3 mods) them if not just pick up the copy of the clean SH3 and try again till you find what you like. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/10.gif

I'd suggest you scan the manual also, there are some things you pick up there that are not mentioned in the tutorials.

Also highly recommend you hit the online community manual at:

http://www.communitymanuals.com/shiii/index.php?title=Main_Page

...which has a little more information than the supplied manual.

I've never played with any mods, just the UBI patches and I've never been bored yet.

...Warning...this is wild forum, we have a hard time with focus and keeping threads inline, but that's what makes us a GREAT forum! Willkommen!

Danke, Cel! I've changed it. My German sister in law has one of those hanging wood signs on her door. Actually, I'll see her tonight as I'm going to visit my brother.

After getting a chance to really play I can tell you this is not something you can pick up fast.
Useing the torpedos was a snap, hitting something with them an altogether different story. =) Im having a blast. If I can get the hang of sinking things and completeing my objectives Ill be doing great.
I still need to learn attack strategies. Such as depth for an attack run, setting torpedo depth (norm seems to be between 3-5 meters). I had a hard time of closeing in on my objective quickly but not so quick as to give away my position.

Ahh, well....Im having a blast and Im sure it will all come to me in time. Any hint/tips from vets are more than welcomed though.
