Oleg,
I haven't seen this reported yet but there is a bug with PF and Nvidia drivers after their version 66.93. I have a 6800GT and have visual settings at maximum. With driver version 66.93 I have no problems, very smooth graphics.

Drivers after 66.93 has a problem however. This is apparent when flying at low levels close to the ground. Although the framerates are high, there is a stuttering effect with the graphcs. This is not noticeable until you are doing low level flight.

I really need to update my graphics drivers because of upcoming games like BF2 etc. I have stayed with driver version 66.93 just for PF.

Could you please look into this for us?

My system
ASUS K8V SE DEluxe
AMD64 3200+
1 gig ram
SB Audigy 2 Sound
WD 160 HD

etc...

Thanks.

buddywoof,

Don't worry, just sent an email to Nvidia because they are the cause ;-) It's a known problem..

71.25 (and 66.93) are the only drivers to display land textures smoothly when shaders 3 are enabled.

All Nvidia drivers later than 71.25 have issues with Il2. The latest ones, 77.62, also produce micro stutters when water = 3 and have missing texture problems.

The moment Nvidia aimed for SLI, their drivers have problems with shader 3.0.

With 71.84 I dont have issues... but I dont use Water 3 mode.

Hello,

It is true and the only solution is to roll back the drivers until the 71.25 one that seem to be good. But I shall try the 66.93 to have the feel of it and report the result later.

Have a nice day.

Thanks NerdConnected. I hope Nvidia then fixes this problem. But maybe if Oleg pressures Nvidia, it might help a bit in speeding up the patch.

You should complain to NVIDIA yourself. They listen to developers, but they will only move if they also receive complains from clients (beleive me... I know). Otherwise It may take 3 or 4 drivers releases to fix that.

Has anyone tried the new 77.72 drivers yet to see if it resolved the issue?

Things don´t get sovled so fast. These last drivers have been on alpha and beta test from up tp 2 month. So a driver to correct PF issues will take at least 2 more moths if no one send them a bug report.

77.72 whql is porked on my system as well. Rolled back to 66.93, no more micro stutters now or missing textures. I was using 71.84 then 71.89 before I tried 77.72 and both had micro stutters however they didnt have missing textures like 77.72 has.

Well, I tried both the 66.93 and 71.25 but 66.93 is better. 71.25 has huge stutter issues in certain map configurations (one of the night single player stock maps). I hope Oleg is talking to Nvidia so they can fix this problem. Drivers after 66.93 are unusable.

After switching from Radeon9800pro to GT6800 my maximum resolution is 1164x864 or so. With the radeon it was 1280x960. Is this a driverproblem also?

I have to agree with you peeps here. After much tweaking and trying out various drivers (courtesy of Guru3D), there does not seem a better driver for IL2 series than 66.93.

On my 6800GT the 66.93 driver offers the smoothest frames and minimal stutter (now and then online when people leave/join etc).

It's always nice to have the latest drivers, but until 1C/nVidia sort out these issues we will have to stay with the older one...

If you have your monitor set for a refresh rate that it won't run ( ie. reforce ), that resolution won't show as a choice...set the proper refresh rate.

I would really like to hear from Oleg...to make sure 1C is working with Nvidia to fix this bug. This is a serious bug in that we are stuck with 66.93 as our driver. Oleg, please comment on this. I've opened a ticket with Nvidia but they are not moving on this. I think 1C really needs to push some weight around.

Fixed what m8? Stutters, missing textures, or both? Is there overall performance gain?

Trying 80.40 drivers: Transparancy issue still there (6800GT) - invisible panels on some aircraft.

I've been using Excellent terrain rather than Perfect to avoid invisi-panels in PF.

Other software out there, BF2 for example, benefits from the new drivers -- 66.93s give me square shadows there.

Doesn't matter if Vsynch is on or off or application controlled. Microstutters are there at low level flight. This is with all graphics settings at maximum (including highest water settings).

So Oleg, when will PF work with the latest Nvidia Drivers? Please let us know what you are doing about the microstutters. Thanks.

I'm having the same issue as everybody else..

thanks to this thread I figured out what was wrong with these wierd stutters and crashes.

I'm running on 66.93 now and IL2 runs smooth, but now T-72 tank simulation is crashing nasty.

I hope Nvidia or Oleg find a fix for this soon, really is cramping my style with my 6800GT OC..

Well, I just noticed strange texture corruption with 66.93 and 4.01m patch as well! Oh no! with water=3, sometimes the rivers get corrupted textures. Anyone else? Now that 66.93 is also giving me problems, I really have no drivers to use! OLEG PLEASE ANSWER US! This is more important than giving us new planes etc etc....this is a basic necessity for the simulation and it's broken! Thanks.

has anyone tried the XG 77.62 type 3 drivers? To be honest I have not tried to fly IL2 just yet with them, but they did improve my bench scores with my 6600GT. The 77.72 havn't gotten very much good press, but I've only heard glowing reports on the XG 77.62 type 3 drivers. Just an idea.

BUMP!

Right now it's either play new games OR play IL2 unless you're one of those masochists that like to switch driver .dll's every time you play another game.

So anyone else getting texture corruptions for the rivers with PF 4.01m and Nvidia 66.93 drivers? This did not happen with the previous version of PF (3.xx).

OLEG, PLEASE ANSWER US!

Can you email Nvidia directly? I sent email to eVGA to be forwarded to Nvidia. 77.72_ForceWare_Release_Notes doesn't mention problems with any IL-2 series games. Does Nvidida test their drivers with PF?

I "roll-backed" from 77.72 to 66.93 and have no graphics problems with PF 4.01m.

I have same problem with 77.72 and I posted in general because I didnt see this post, but yea i have same problem, missing textures and invisible parts of aircraft. I had it about a year ago as well with older drivers, but found stable drivers in the 6xxx range and had been running them til not that long ago when i was forced to update http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif

aipilotmarkone,

Well, I just sent them another email some days ago. This person told me he would pass it on, so let's hope for the best.

I have'nt mentioned the missing textures in later drivers (problably 7800 related), but only the micro stutters when using shader 3.0 (water=3), since this is my biggest problem with all of their later drivers.

Mark

buddywoof

I agree, microstutters are my biggest problem too. The missing textures suck too. I'm surprised that this isn't fixed since 66.93!

Does anyone know how to use 1 set of drivers for one game and another set of drivers for another game? If Pacific Fighters uses the Nvidia 66.93 drivers while the rest of the computer system uses Nvidia's latest drivers, then maybe I can play both Battlefield 2 and Pacific Fighters properly. Any ideas? Thanks.

The old ATI trick doesn't work, copying the nVidia OGL dll results in a version error when FB initialises, may be down to the profiling feature nVidia employ.

Setting shaders=1.0 (http://forums.ubi.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/49310655/m/8681096243)however does work, but results in the water=3 being redundant.

I've just switched back to Nvidia myself (after 18 mos. with ATI) just to get a videocard that uses 3.0 shaders. Sorry, if this has been answered before : what are the most recent stable drivers to use with PF merged version ?

Depends on your card and the applications you wish to run.

Up to and including 6800: 66.93 for PF.

7800 requires 77.72 so 3.0 shaders need to be disabled pending bug fix from nVidia.

Using the forceshaders=1 workaround with 77.72 drivers, I just end up with a bastardized version of perfect landscape that lies somewhere between excellent and perfect water=1 in quality with just as much performance loss. Wave animations along shoreline are missing. Water surface still has the excellent mode animation together with perfect waves. Sun relfections are overlaid with a black, flickering haze. I don't know why anyone would consider this a fix or a workaround. Just using excellent mode is the better course if you have an SLI setup or need the later drivers for other games.
