This is unrestricted submarine warfare. I sink everything red, and occasionally green. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif

I usually sink everything that isn't me. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I'll take anything that comes my way....Within reason.

I won't waste a torpedo on anything smaller than a coastal merchant. But if the weather allows and there is no danger present I'll surface and gun anything that's red and moves.

Having said that, if I come across a convoy (I'm still in early 1940) I won't sink a small merchant when there's a T3 to be had. Don't know if that's cherry picking but I prefer to think of it as good target selection!!

I also try to avoid tangling with destroyers. When I have a meal I prefer to be the only one doing the biting!! http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/59.gif

Depends on my mood and what ammo I have left.

Let it all go to the bottom! Swedish? To the bottom! American you say (before 1942 of course)? To the bottom. Trigger-happy you may say, or am I??? Well, you think it would be possible to coax America into the war by going to the Eastern seaboard and sinking some stuff? Call it another Lusitiana.

I will attack any enemy vessal I come across if it is worth the risk and stands a good chance of being sunk. However I don't hunt lone targets, I hunt convoys. If I happen to run over a lone contact (often literally) I'll attack if in position but otherwise I keep looking for convoys. Once I find convoys, I of course target the juiciest ships first as any decent captian would.

I agree with the idea of target selection. When I come across a convoy, I target the T2's and T3's first, C3 and C2 next, Coastals, etc. I believe that is the wise thing to do, in case there are nearby destroyers. Depending on the number of escorts, I will press the attack until I am out of torpedos/gun ammo or the entire convoy is on the bottom. Generally I always try to completely destroy the convoy (multiple attacks).I am still in the happy years (1941) so this is still possible.

What I will not do is attack a convoy, destroy the T2 and T3's and then sail off in search of another convoy. I just can't bring myself to let that many ships (10-12) sail on to their destination.

Less than 2000 tons gets a pass unless weather allows sinking with deck gun. Of course, I do cherry pick convoys, going for max tonnage to torpedo ratio. Seems to make sense to me.

The only deviation is that I will happily send a destroyer to the bottom if I get a 'can't resist it' kind of shot!

I go for any target available with this exception. I won't chase down a Convoy. I'll go after one if it's close enough and I can sink the Destroyers first. No sense taking any unnecessary chances with my crew.

We work as a team and I have their respect for keeping them safe. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-wink.gif Works well so far as we've sank a total of 395,539 tons of shipping as of June 26, 1943. BTW.. a Type IX really makes a difference.

I could not agree with you more. Most times I am targeting in bad weather and the extra torpedo load makes all the difference to me. I have had more instances of wishing for more torpedos than wishing for more gun ammo.

I am only in mid 1941, how do you find the IX later in the war. Many have said it is preferable to switch back to the VII becuase of the quicker dive times.

I just love to hunt those eeeeeeeeeeevil destroyers and other escorts!! Just show your self and draw them after u. ....and then punish them all with few torps (range 300-500). Only once (River-DD) managed to escape from sudden death. http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/784.gif

Usually I don't waste any torps for small merchants (counting tonnages).

I follow the U-boat commanders handbook "You have what you have" I don't wait for a better target. The exception is that I will not waste torpedoes on tugs or fishing boats.
