Is there any chance to play this game online using a antique 56kb/s dialup connection? On every server I tried to connect I got kicked do to my large ping http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-sad.gif (its regularly only a matter of time), which never gets below 350. http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_frown.gif
If someone knows any way to help me whit this, pleas tell me anything that might help (except the advice to get a faster connection).

Set your connection to low values (14.4 or 24.4 kbps). Lower your video settings and resolution. Turn off skin download. Turn off all uneccesary programs (firewalls antivirus etc.), especially that progs which are trying to connect to the internet. Do not play on server with more than 10 players.

Besides that I don't know anything else you could do.

I do; Play Coops. 9/10 times their better than dogfight servers anyway, and the hosts usually have default (loose) settings. Same goes for any personal dogfight games, IE set up by a player, not a dedicated. These usually have default loose settings too.

*edit* I should add that 2 guys on my squad have 56k and they do fine, even with TS. But of course they cant fly with me on warclouds which sucks ***

I do not agree with the advice to turn off your firewall, anti-virus software, etc. That's asking for trouble in my opinion.

Voice comms tend to cause the most problems for the 56K guys on our server. We use TeamSpeak and they will often switch to a private or semi-private channel when things heat up. They still talk to the people they need to talk to, but they eliminate all the extra chatter that chews up bandwidth while dogfighting, ground attack, etc.

The TS host will need to set up these channels beforehand and then each player needs to map keys to allow them to switch channels as needed. This really helps to keep their pings in line.

56k is still ok online , but play at a low network setting & stay away from online comms

& avoid the big 20+ DF rooms - play in rooms of 10 or so

Thanks for the advices; some of them really helped, like that one to turn the skin download. Weird enough lowering graphic settings on minimal didn't help, it actually made ping bigger http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_confused.gif, medium settings work best. Lesser resolution makes no difference (only makes my eyes hurt).
So far I been able to play on uk dedicated server whit no problems, I'm still looking for a good coop server on which I wont stand out as only non squad player. Actually I always evaded coops and tried to play on some more realistic df servers, but now I'm forced.
Can anyone suggest some good coop servers?

Ping all depeneds what country u live in and where the server is located.

You will need to find one in your own country or very close

(Such as France or Germany if you live in England)

Where do you live and we will tell you some servers based near you.

I dont get why ppl love coops so much, surely a full objective based server with real players is better than AI controlled planes?

UKded1 is like a coop but with all player controlled planes, ie wartime scenarios with targets, historical aircraft, bonus planes if your team wins the map etc.

Can u tell me why a coop is any better?

Here's one of many reasons: Coops allow you to create your own situations, tailored to your liking. e.g. Want to intercept a formation of B17's over Germany? You won't get the chance in a DF server.

Let your creativity soar. Have you learnt how to use the Full Mission Builder?

I see what you mean, but on UK ded1 you often come across 3 bombers escorted by 2 or 3 fighters so I guess its the same but on a smaller scale. Sometimes most of the team gets togther and makes runs at the targets, it really is like a mini war when everyones working together (which is quite often if most regulars are on)

I guess I would just rather fly vs real people than robots http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_smile.gif, but I can see ho wit would be fun. Thanks for the info.

No I have never used the full mission builder.

Check the coop rooms more carefully. There are many coops where the only "robots" are just a few AI planes that can't be flown anyway.

Look into joining a squadron. Many of them fly both coops and fly in DF rooms.

IMO coops are the way to go for complete immersion. That's the way the war was really fought in the air. No maverik's, lone ranger's or mercenary types.

Just my 2 kopecks worth.

My coops are fun, and i always get full, and try to limit AI planes to minimum. I have no ping restrictions so come and hop on. I am 443sqDanjama
