I don't think there are any yet. Maybe some nice person will create them for us as more images come out.

What size do they have to be? I'll see if we can do some -- it's a nice idea!

And what kind of image do you like -- scenes, logos, objects, faces?

Buddy icons can not be any bigger than 7168 bytes, must be no bigger than 64 pixels and no smaller than 15 pixels, but the icon will actually appear as a 48x48 pixel image.

I've attempted to make some icons but getting the Revelation logo to fit into such a small area and still look legible has been a bit of a problem.

I browsed through the Myst Obsession Gallery and grabbed a few images and made some quick Buddy Icons, per the standards set forth by Shorah - 48x48 and 6966 bytes.

Buddy icons (http://myst.idyastudios.com/?x=goods.buddyicons)

Tell me what you think, I'll try and keep the page updated as I get new ideas or requests...

[Edit]
Clicking on an icon is a shortcut for AIM / Trillian to automatically load the icon. If you want to save the image to your hard drive, right-click and "Save Image As..."

Those are really good Brilers ... great job!

Perhaps the ending has not yet been written!

Oooh, very good, brilers! Like Shorah said, it's really hard to write anything legible in only 48 pixels square. And you even got the word "revelation" in there!

I really like the monkey one.

Thanks for the support http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

I added another seven sets to the page. I figured there'd be some good stuff in the "Spoilers" section from the trailers, but seeing as I didn't watch the trailers so I wouldn't be spoiled, I had to race through the threads, looking for pictures only, and then had to try and not think while I was cutting little squares out of them http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif Let me know if there's anything I've missed, or if you have cool ideas.

[Edit]
I've been playing around with the logo and some more pictures, so stay tuned for more updates later.

Sure thing, 64x64 will be no problem.

I'm curious though, what is the general opinion on text - for buddy icons and/or avatars? None, or some, or all? Let me know, it'd be alot of work to save all of these with all of the text options that I'm playing with http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Srikandi

For advertising purposes, it's nice to have the text http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

How about just one text option, which would have "Myst IV" at the top at the same size you have "Revelation" in at the bottom? Then we get the text AND more of the picture. And keep the picture-only option?

New ones are great too. I've asked if we can feature these at the Mystworlds site, if you don't mind; will let you know how that turns out.

Roger, roger on the text options - I'm all over it.

[Edit]
Phew, icons (and avatars) all done, change of link:

[Edit #2] Changed the link again http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-surprised.gif, spiffy new site to go with it (at least I think it's spiffy).

Avatars (http://myst.idyastudios.com/?x=goods.avatars), Buddy icons (http://myst.idyastudios.com/?x=goods.buddyicons)

[Edit #3]
If the site isn't accessible to you, it's because your local DNS server hasn't received the entry for the domain, check back in a few hours and it should work...

[Edit #4]
The lack of replies are turning this post into an edit-fest, so I'll call this edit the last one and let this thread die a peaceful death http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif I've added some more icons/avatars, and I think that's about all of them I'm gonna get from the images in the MO Gallery, but if I find any more or someone asks for something, I'll definately put them up.

These are fantastic. The new backgrounds are excellent. I especially like the split heads (S&A) one and "one family, two secrets".

RandomOS, who does the Mystworlds community stuff, is on vacation, but I'm sure he'll want to feature these when he's back next week.

I'm thrilled you guys like them!

I'm running out of squares to cut out of videos and screenshots, so I've starting doing some wallpapers - I've posted one (along with a few more icons), and I've got some ideas for others running through my head. And like I said on my site, feel free to make requests http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Excellent idea, matt! It's posted, and I must say I'm really pleased with how it came out - and it was a blast to do! Might have to make some variations in the future http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

[Edit]
I was wondering, does anyone have or know where I can get a vector copy or a good-quality version of the revelation logo? I've been fighting with it for a while, trying to get it all nice and clean, but it's still not quite as clean as say the logo at the top of this forum...

Didn't quite work nakita7 http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

If you have nowhere that you can host the image separately, use this address for the image you want:

http://myst.idyastudios.com/images/avatars/bookstack_light.png

Note: I suggest you use the pictures from "forum avatars" for your picture on forums - they're bigger in size and thus better quality than the smaller IM buddy icons http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Brilers, you can grab the Revelation font from http://www.mystfonts.com and make your own logo... I'd suggest using the "MYST" from a font like Centaur or the Riven font, though, because the T in the Revelation font is all pointy...

Yeah, I have the Revelation font, I'll look into that Centaur font, though.

My biggest problem seems to be poor antialiasing of the edges, I don't know if that's a shortcoming of Paint Shop Pro, or the font or the stroke size, but the battle shall continue! Thanks for the tip Alahmnat.

[Edit]
Ok, I figured out how to get a nice clean logo, yay! Now to update all the wallpapers...

Still working on the wallpapers, but I did put up an URU cursor set. Can't wait to see the Revelation cursors in their full glory.

These are really cool. Pity I use MSN Messenger and MSN pics are 100x100! Oh well I'll just make my own...
(Actually for MSN I usually use my Uru avatar as seen <---)

100x100? I keep all of my source images, I'll just make some 100x100 ones http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Thanks for the tip, EMS

Ahh cool! Gee it looks like you've gone to a lot of trouble! Do you use some kind of template or do you swap around all the different combinations of images/text by hand?

(I'd probably use Flash, and I'd have all the images in different frames, then all the text on various layers across frames which can be added and removed.)

Sorry about the long delay, I was actually in the process of designing something similar to what you said, EMS. I'd like to present...

The Avatar Builder (http://myst.idyastudios.com/?x=goods.icobuilder)

I personally have enough fun just messing around with it - I'd love to hear your guys' comments http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

Oooh thats COOL brilers!
But when I clicked the image it worked a few times but now it just displays a no-picture box. Im using IE. Any suggestions?

Hmm it worked again. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt, depending on the picture.

It's my crazy host, it seems like their PHP is getting flaky ... it's messing up my Myst Updater, too. The only advice I have is wait a couple minutes or so - all of the images work, the only reason they won't is if the website's server is acting up.

Time to start looking for an alternate host, hehe

Glad you enjoy it! I just added a few more base images, and I'm working on some overlays that I should have up soon.

Fantastic stuff brilers, awesome idea!

simple, powerful, flexible and quick!

i was gunna suggest some more overlays but you're on to that already! can you do some filled texts? one other little itty bitty thing http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif - for a while i didn't realise the image wasn't the final one (sloppy reading http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif) - could put a preview label and a create button for people like me? http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_razz.gif

anyway great job brilers!

Good idea matt.
Nice work Brilers, this thing is really cool. I also like the ongoing additions to the image collection - you've chosen some great shots.
And of course now its compatible with MSN so thats great. Now I can show off Myst IV to my real-life friends!

Also, if the image has a red border it's not final and if it has a green border it is final - is that intuitive enough, do you think? Or should I have something that states "Not final" and "Final"?

yeah, i noticed the red and green border after trying some variations and wondered what it was for, i became intent on figuring it out, and eventually realised there were finished/not finished states! - it makes logical sense - red/green (hmmm... maybe red/blue... j/k http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif) but i didn't even realise it needed to be finished.

yeah, a "preview" / "final" label might be helpful http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_smile.gif

Kidding, of course (or am I http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/blink.gif). I added the label.

I can't wait for the demo to come out on Monday, I'm gonna have myself a screenshot-taking-bonanza, even if it is one node and one video http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif
