View Full Version : IL2 Multiplayer - Any Time Compression?

Hey folks!
Does MP have any time compression? My buds and I tried a co-op campaign, but the 20 min flights to/from the battlefield was too tedious. Any way to speed this up?

MP co-op dynamic campaigns sound awesome, but it seems to me there has to be SOMEWAY of speeding up the flights to/from the battlefield.

What am I missing?

The POINT

"The POINT?"
Uh, Yeah. Thanks for the help.

I guess that "Base Transfer" mission we flew as our FIRST on-line campaign mission was 'the point'.

Yeah, that was a real ball. Only a 45 minute flight to our new base.

I was just wondering if this is the NORM of the on-line campaigns, if there is a way to "speed up" flight times to and from the target area.

I was hoping for a civil response...but alas, I guess that's not to be found here. Yep, I get "the point".

"Thanks"

What the others wanted to express was:

Your own logical thinking should give you the answer for your question... both technically and in terms of attitude.

Regarding attitude: what's the point in flying such a mission, if you actually just want to skip two thirds of it?

And technically, though I believe it can be done, I think it would make no sense to add a time compression to multiplayer. If it would be an individual's choice, that would mean everybody could forcce a time compression on the game, even if it is only beneficial for this single person, while others get into a bad situation thanks to the increased speed.
And if you would make it a choice all could make by vote, the time that would be spent to complete the vote and activate the time warp would be better used to actually fly the mission the way it's supposed to be used.
Besides, you often don't know if there are hostiles, and at what point you will exactly encounter them... do you wanna get ripped to shreds just because you had no chance to evade an enemy approaching at time warp speed? And believe me, having to restart because of such an incident takes even more time than flying the mission normal.

So, to put this in short, there is no time compression for multiplayer, and there certainly won't ever be any.

they're saying you're missing the point because this is a flight sim. you should be using that 45 minutes to tighten up your formations.

If you want air combat only, maybe you should try secret weapons over normandy. http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/infopop/emoticons/icon_wink.gif

Sorry Future;
I'm not buying your reasoning.

MP co-op campaign time compression DOES work - Falcon4 did it wonderfully. Seamless, easy, nobody could "hose up" another player because of it. It is doable, and has been done successfully in other "uber-realism" games.

IL2 doesn't contain it because of the possibility of being "jumped"? Well, IL2 DOES include TC for single player so obviously the option is THERE if people want it. I just want the same option in MP, that's all. It amazes me that it WOULDN'T be there for MP, too.

Everybody plays sims for different reasons. My "thing" isn't necessarily formation flying and "tightening up my formations" for 87 missions in a row during a campaign. I want to be able to play a coop campaign where myself and my bud's actions can actually INFLUENCE a campaign. To be able to do this effectively, I need to BE able to fly at least a chunk of a campaign in something doable at a LAN session. Not doable when it seems the flight times to and from the battlefield are anywhere from 15-45 minutes.

IL2 went one way, Falcon4 went another with respect to MP time compression. That suprises me, that is all.

ROFL http://ubbxforums.ubi.com/images/smiley/784.gif Had no idea my post would cause you so much iritation perhaps you should look into the Scripted server side of things (FBDAEMON)? that could with a little tweaking provide the kinda coop you seek? S!
