View Full Version : Object visability in 4.09

I haven't had a chance to run 4.09 yet and I was wondering how the visibility of objects, especially other aircraft compares to previous versions.

The new maps especially seem like it should be easier to spot aircraft against the ground. Has anyone observed changes in how hard it is to see those d@mn dot's?

To see enemy 'dots' you have to fly at 1024x768.OK so it doesnt look as good as higher res but it really is that simple. The game was designed and optimised for that res. When I got my widescreen and tried to play at 1650x1080 I couldnt vulch even if I wanted to as the planes taking off directly below me even at low alt were invisible! There would be NO CHANCE to engage enemy aircraft unless maybe silhouetted against a perfecly clear sky/above clouds etc
At the 'proper' screen resolution you can see planes take off even at 10km alt...

So you are saying you will only see an increased visability if you are usin 1024 x 768 and that those running at 1600 x 1200 will notice no difference using 4.09 patch ?

I don't think there's a big difference in dots visibility, but the game looks awesome from high up now.
Here's a screenshot in 1680x1050.

They say it´s easier to spot dots in 1024*768.The added visability as far as I know, works in all resolutions. But it dosen´t reflect objects, just ground scenery,if I have got it correctly.I run in 1280*1024 and can spot dots quite easy.

I can see dots at 500M + at 1600 x 1200. No complaints out of the ordinary; just thought the high vis would also enable seeing planes and objects as that was an issue in past discussions.

Yeah they do and I disagree with every single one of them. I see them the same if not better at 1680x1050.

Haven't downloaded the beta yet but I wonder if there will be any improvement iro stereo 3D - 'til now aircraft at a distance (the dots described above) appear double (only problem in stereo 3D, the rest looks brilliant).

That is because they are 2D. To make one dot in stereo 3D the dot would have to be 3D. The current dots are just an image, no 3D model. Such a dot would only have to have very few polygons, but for some reasons (i wonder why? http://forums.ubi.com/images/smilies/16x16_smiley-tongue.gif ) they only made them 2D.
And I dont think that this will change in Il-2 either.

Do you use a LCD/TFT screen? Is its native res. 1650x1080? If not, that may be the problem.

Absolutely agree with HaVok on this one! I got a 22" Samsung a few weeks ago,and see dots much better now at 1680 X 1050 than I ever did at 1024 X 768 on my old 17" crt.

Cornfused...

So everytime I set the visibility to "3" in config.ini, it reverts to "2", but I am on perfect settings. Ideas?

Also, I also tried some of the new objects, and had guys IN other objects instead of on top of them like the plane example above (neat idea BTW. I was trying to put folks on a dock). Can you adjust the vertical height of an object?

TIA.

in fact my visibility file is already at 3 im sure i read somewhere that there was another file in the config.ini that could be changes for better effects after this patch, what is it?

i see there are a lot of files in there that have settings does anyone have any info on other changes that can be made to increase the graphic quality

The dot size doesn't seem to be effected but if you fly ocean maps you can see land much, much farther away than you used to. I have to adjust because I keep thinking things are closer than they really are.

I'll re-agree with both of them. I used to have a standard CRT 17", and obviously, the lower the resolution, the bigger the pixels, and therefore, bigger the dots. But once I went to 22" widescreen, and upped the resolution, I still see the dots in the same way, if not better http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif Agreed with the samsung LCD as being the best, i have a single bright pixel, but oh well, i've mentally blocked it, like my grandma's mole http://forums.ubi.com/groupee_common/emoticons/icon_biggrin.gif

I also have a 22inch Samsung and have no problems seeing dots at native res (1680x1050).

I did have a 17 inch CRT and while the dots did stand out as i was using 800x600 res (crappy 64meg video card)

Now with the 8800GTX no problems at all

No, you cannot...it would be a great feature though!
